Learning to breathe.

This is similar to the post about dying, so..
Well most of the times i trip off mushrooms, especially the higher doses/level, i get so consumed by the trip for who knows how many minutes at a time that after i get out of that and realize im trippin pretty hard i find myself trying to catch my breath.
Its like during the time im so in myself, tripping, i guess i forget to breathe. it becomes like a voluntary action that i suddenly have to take control of and actually think about doing, and not just let my body involuntarily handle it.
It gets pretty scary sometimes because, well, you know, if you dont breathe you can die.
So i think to myslef "why is this happening?" I always think theres a reason for everyhting so i got an answer out of myslef and thought maybe this (the trip) is an invitation to visit the other side, where those who have passed still live, and i am now being given the choice of going there. I can decide to not think about anything, not think about breathing, and just go there. Im sure this is the beginning to ego loss/ego death - i havent experienced that yet.
But its scary to me because although im curious about whats there, i also dont want to die and..you know, not come back. I like life, i dont just want to say goodbye yet.
So yeah, when coming back to realizing im tripping hard its like i have to teach myself how to breathe to survive, its kinda hard to just let go.
you know what im slayin?

Yeah, thats close to ego loss, its the point just before it. Its when you can be sitting there, then kinda feel a sense of nothing... and you might do a quick motion to breathe of jump outa your chair.
The important thing to remember in a time like this is that, your body doesnt forget to breathe while on mushrooms. Mushrooms arent heroin, and psylocybe doesnt block those receptors.
I've had the complete loss of ego, the loss of all control a few times. And you dont forget to breathe, you dont even think about it. You dont really even know what breathing is, but your body does it automatically- so no worries.
My advice to you is to just relax at times like this, remember that no one can do you no harm. Just eat a lot at once, and loose that ego, blast past the stage you seem to be stuck at, dont look back and let go. I dont think anyone has ever forgotten to breathe and died while on shrooms- not possible.

This has never personally happened to me
although, once I took a massive amount of DMT in one lungful and couldn't breathe for a good 45 seconds afterwards... on top of what DMT already does.. needless to say that was intense.
I'm not sure if it's possible for the body to stop breathing involuntarily. perhaps thinking about it is what made it seem this way?
or maybe the mushrooms are trying to get you to give up your attachment to life if you're not attached to life, you won't fear death

Nice, man. true words.
It doesnt seem like i can survive when im actually there, but ill keep that in mind next time and get past that.
theres a cool song my friends band made. theyre getting big now. towards the end it goes
"remember this --- Remember this(backwards), Learn to breathe..." and so on. In the background: "Returning to leave, were learning to see, learn to breathe"
such a good, trippy song. Id post it up, but i gotta go right now. but heres their purevolume: Auditory Aphasia
let me know.

for me, i think its the silence between breaths that compels me to hold it during a trip... just so soothing.

I get that when I smoke really good pot. In fact, I was unconsciously holding my breath when I clicked on this thread. You just reminded me to breathe.

w/ lsd it is quite possible this effect is a result of the contraction of smooth muscle along your airway, making breathing more of a struggle. Not sure if their is any evidence of this in particular, but it would fit w/ the M.O. of the ergots.

Never heard of this happening to anyone on mushrooms but I've had a couple of my friends tell me that they did WAY to much K on one occasion and got sucked so far into the K-hole that they had to sit and conciously think about breathing. They said it was pretty terrifieng. I'm not sure if its possible for K to shut down your breathing totally or not but they were pretty scared.
