so i just got done pc'n some grains for the first time. 90 mins at 15 psi.
so i shut the heat off when they were done and just left it be, but now there is an aroma in the house that smells like grains being cooked. is this normal or did i cook these grains and wreck this batch? i dont want to open the pc to check.
thanks for the input...

Sounds fine. Is it just a grain cooking smell or a burnt grain smell?

Yeah. Funny enough I just got that yesterday doing my first batch of BRF jars, too. I always thought it was grainy...but the exact same scent emanates from the PF jars. Anyhow, you're fine. You're changing pressure on the grains, and heating/cooking them somewhat; it'll smell.

Half the reason I used to grow was to smell that intoxicating aroma that you get when you pull a fully colonized cake out of the jar. Thats a moment I love to savour.

Yeah. I grow edibles, mostly. I don't even like the taste of mushrooms, just have grown to love the process. The smell of sterilizing grain is second, in my book, only to that earthy mushroom scent. Yum.

HA, I burnt my grains for the first time yesterday. I smelled something burning, and I was like WTF is that?
That's why I don't get high before I use the PC anymore.
-------------------- I didn't get turned on I just got turned I wasn't as aroused as I was concerned for each one of 'em I've hurt and every time I've been burned I've got a lot to teach but even more to learn

I wouldn't stop just due to the smell. It's no indicator, just a natural byproduct of cooking the grains.
Good luck!
