Possibly some edibles? ID Please.

So it rained here a good amount for about 5 days straight about 5 days ago. Just noticed these guys as I was walking my dog down the road. I know they aren't active, but I've hunted enough to know that these are possibly some edibles.
The whole bunch, there was a pretty good amount of them.
Veil remnants? (sorry for quality on this one)
 A closer look.
 One more shot.
Location: Found in deadish grass on the side of the road near a garden. They were all growing within a 10 foot radius, though only a couple were growing right next to each other. Whereabouts: Central Virginia, the temperatures have been dropping down into the 30's at night. Cap: Somewhat waxy looking and smooth. From a white to tanish color. Size anywhere from an inch to 3 inches in diameter. Gills: Free from stem and packed tightly together. All were a dark brownish color and the older specimens were almost black. Stem: Whitish, not hollow. All were about an inch to a half an inch tall and anywhere from a quarter inch to a half an inch thick. Viel remnants appear on a few, yet subtle. Spore print: Appear dark brown or black on some of the stems, the official print is underway, yet nothing revealed so far. Bruising: None aparent. Odor: Strong mushroomy smell, a lot like button mushrooms from the store.
I realized that I don't really have a great cap shot, the best picture for a cap shot would be the first picture. Check the bottom specimen in the middle.
I will note that these reminded me a lot of button mushrooms, though bigger and not as stubby.
I will also note that there is a mushroom in the top left corner on some of those pics that is not one of these, but picked separately.
There is a fan running in my room and I don't want these to dry out just in case they are edible, so I will go ahead and throw them in the refrigerator to keep them wet and fresh for eating (if ID allows it).

It is an Agaricus. I can't tell from here if it is an edible or poisonous species.
It might be ok since you didn't notice any yellow staining or nasty odor.
A lot of the good edible Agaricus bruise reddish where damaged.

Yeah I agree they are Agaricus, I looked at that site for a good while though and I just can't find anything that is really like these. A lot of similarities but nothing jumps out at me.

some of the poisonous species only exhibit yellow staining at the very base of the stipe, this is where you will want to check for creepy chemical smells as well. If you have access to the spot you might want to look for a few more and carefully excavate a a bit of soil from around the stipe. Take this home and wash the soil away to look for yellow rhizomorphs (often bright yellow, similar to this little face )
I kinda doubt you will find any but you can never be too careful.
For just a couple bucks you can buy a vial of granular Potassium hydroxide. Mix some up with enough water to form a five to ten percent aqueous solution. It can be a handy substance for identifying a wide variety of mushrooms, including separating species of Agaricus.
I'll send you a PM with a good source

Thanks georgeM.
While I have a thread open with some fall mushrooms, san anyone name a few fall/winter species that grow on the east coast? This will be my first winter as a mushroom hunter. I found some great stuff in the summer but I wanna know that I will be able to continue to search throughout the year. As far as actives go, I know that I can look for gyms, but their season is almost over I think. What about some more edibles?
