linking .gov sites
    #6215542 - 10/26/06 08:36 PM (17 years, 3 months ago)

when somebody uses the
Code:
 [url=whateverwebsite.com]click this link![/url]

tags, and the url ends in .gov, you should have it replace the text with "no direct linking to .gov sites", or have it go through some proxy that isn't related to this site. just probably not the best idea to have referred by shroomery.org in the access logs of .gov sites. :ohwell:

I've seen sites that simply convert all HTML links into a proxy-blinded link... that seems like the easiest way to do it.

Just make sure to choose a popular gateway site so it's clear that there are other sites that could generate the traffic.

Okay, I've made it so links to .gov and .mil sites are redirected through Coral Cache.

Hmmm... don't link to them?

There are a lot of anonymous browsing services I could tap into, but none of them invite third parties to make free use of them the way Coral Cache does and I don't want to steal service or bandwidth. Maybe someone should post a message to the Coral users mailing list and ask why it's blacklisted..?

You could use http://anonym.to/

You simply re-write links to read http://anonym.to/?http://www.fda.gov

it strips the referrer, and they seem to have no problem with third-party use

Quote:

English version: to make a long story short: anonym.to is a free and easy way to block the referrer when a visitor clicks a link on your homepage. It works with every browser as you do only have to add a http://anonym.to/? in front of every outgoing http:// link. Use it as you want.

Sweet, thanks for that link! Looks ideal for this purpose, I've updated the .gov/.mil filtering to use anonym.to instead of coralcdn.

No problem, many private torrent sites use it for outgoing links on their forums to stay low profile.

test: www.nasa.gov

Edit: hehe, everytime I edit my post it adds another http://anonym.to/? to the link. Not really a problem; it still works.

Is this still in use? If so why are moderators in Other Drugs editing people's links to .gov sites and telling them not to link to .gov sites?

As in this post: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/7593563#Post7593563

Or does this not work when users merely enter the address in the post?

Yes, it is still in use, he simply wasn't aware, as I don't think it is something that is so well known.

If you hover over the link and take a look down at your browser's status bar, you'll see that the actual link goes through http://hiderefer.com/
