Cleaning

Quick question...I've done a forum search, but couldn't find what i was looking for.
Just cleaned a few nice big cubensis that I found today. I noticed that when I rinsed them under water (cold), the gills faded to light purple, due to all the purple colouring washing off under the water.
I need to clarify whether this is a sign of the shroom losing potency or not?
I'd much rather eat clean shrooms, but I may reconsider if cleaning them results in a huge loss in potency.
Thanks!

I don't know if the loss of potency is huge but bruising always is a sign of loosing potency, since it's an reaction of Psilocin with oxygen. I wouldn't want to eat shit smeared mushrooms as well (it might be harmful as well), but maybe you should just wait for the mushrooms to be dried and then scratch off the dung.

What you are seeing is the spores washing out of the gills. I personally would not rinse them this way. If they are loosing potency it is not because of the spores rinsing off.

Do not rinse your Cubes with water. Since the active chemicals in the shrooms are water-soluble I do believe you are losing potency by washing them. Especially do not soak the gills, in nature the mushroom is shaped like an umbrella for a reason, to guard rain from getting into the gills.. so don't wet your shrooms, especially the gills, eat them the way nature intended.
If you want to have a clean collection of Cubes then clean them off good before putting them in your collection bag. Use scissors to cut the Cubes off the patties, that pretty much guarantees you a relatively clean sack of shrooms. If you prefer to yank to whole shroom than use your finger nail to scrape all of the dung/sand off the base of the stems before putting it into your collection bag. I usually yank if the weather is nice, but if it is raining I will use scissors because the dung and sand gets to hard to clean off when it is wet.
For when you get home with your haul, cleaning Cubes while they are still fresh causes an added extra bit of potency loss from the handleing. You want to dehydrate them first and then do most of your cleaning once they are dried.
For the most part when you find Cubes in the wild the only part of the shroom with sand/dirt/dung on it is the base of the stem, so that is your main concern. If you are real picky about having clean fruits, when you get home you can swipe each of the caps with damp rag very carefully, but again I have always prefered to just clean them once they are fully dried.
When you find them in the wild, the cap surface is usually rather slimey but any dirt on the cap surface can just be wiped off easily by sliding your thumb down across the surface of the cap before putting it in your collection bag. But usually when you find a Cube the surface of the cap is relatively clean already.
Its all about practice and technique. Mostly you just want to avoid getting sand in the gills. It just takes some practice and patience. Beginners have shown me their Cube harvests and it amazes me how all their shrooms will be beat to sh.t, dirty, sand in the gills, just a mess. They must just get so excited and dont have the patience to clean each one they find.

I also dont clean my actives.
I DO use salt to quicken the drying process and keep better cleanliness. Also keeping a bowl of rice in the drying cabinet sounds crazy but it absorbs the moisture in the air.
cell phone companies also tell you to put your water damaged cell phone in a bowl of rice to help it dry out quicker and not be destroyed.
