Tough truths
    #7604966 - 11/06/07 10:00 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

Give me some tough truths. Truths most people wouldn't want to hear.

--------------------
“Strengthened by contemplation and study,
I will not fear my passions like a coward.
My body I will give to pleasures,
to diversions that I’ve dreamed of,
to the most daring erotic desires,
to the lustful impulses of my blood, without
any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

tough truth... cold, hard, rational, analyzation
a tough truth is something like: nobody can love you if you dont love yourself

it's definitely yang
the truth becomes tough and resilient because it's a reflection of ourselves in a dense state. the truth is love at the highest vibration, and the truth is hate at the lowest because it is dense

"i'm not stupid! you're stupid!" and the other person is stupid, but it's not the fact that they are stupid that is true, it is the reflection which is true - it is true that it is tough to accept that one is stupid and it is true that one would react with hate towards that in a dense state. from the standpoint of truth, we shouldn't judge this lowly person because they are acting out of their own truth which is still a reflection of the love which makes their truth possible.

Those bloodsuckers, that is exactly what they're doing! We must warn the masses! We should write a book and then a screenplay about this to get the word out. We'll make millions, erm, I mean we'll spread the word and save the planet!

MushroomTrip and Veritas, I find those truths to be somewhat comforting. I have always tended to have less desire for accomplishment than people around me think I'm capable of, and more desire to find a simple way of living and loving.

--------------------
“Strengthened by contemplation and study,
I will not fear my passions like a coward.
My body I will give to pleasures,
to diversions that I’ve dreamed of,
to the most daring erotic desires,
to the lustful impulses of my blood, without
any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

I felt a distinct uneasiness when I read those words, so I would have to agree; yes, I intuit that it is deeper than I think. Where has the rabbit hole led you?

This is your belief system. There is no evidence that there is a simple way of living or loving. That IME is wishful dreaming. And down the rabbit hole you go.

Veritas is so right on this one. It may take some years to find out what she is talking about but if you do, to quote Don Juan, "it will deliver a blow that no one can parry".

Yes, the philosophical junk drawer can be tough to sift through.  So many rubber bands, dried-out markers, bottle openers, match books, old batteries, miscellaneous parts for mystery appliances and other mental detritus, can make discerning the tools a real challenge.

Nothing like a great psychedelic trip and/or a week-long retreat to clear out the clutter, though!

Although you aren't making any sense, it seems like what you are trying to say is that the human inclination towards being socially oriented is a problem. I don't see how this has anything to do with what was being discussed previously. Or how there is anything inherently problematic with people forming social bonds.

Oh I see. I kinda like my animal instincts. They keep me alert, tell me when to fight or run, let me know when someone sexy is in my vicinity, and tell me when to eat, drink and defecate. Important functions in the game of life. Of course I'm fond of my rational faculties as well, they help me organize the above listed in ways specific to my intended purposes.

don't want to derail this thread any further but...

it is only fight or flight which makes us selfish

rationality, a product of our newer more evolved brain, is what allows us to balance our animalistic desires on one hand with what is rationally best, happiness for ourselves and others brought about by helping each other out.

someone who tries to take advantage of others is generally not happy because they are acting out of fear which is governed by the reptilian brain

I don't think the fight or flight instinct makes us selfish. People become selfish when they fear deprivation and are socially alienated. Fight or flight allows us to avoid getting into dangerous situations. I appreciate and trust this instinct, we'd probably all die at a really young age without it.

I don't know... most of us will never realize our dreams, will never reach our full potential, and when we die we will soon be forgotten (save for a select few loved ones).

If someone considers this truth, then I have to ad:
G*d does exist, we just haven't developed any means to let us know.
We are not alone
[For some that might be tough ]

Let me provide the middle path which I believe to be the best and most honest one. "We do not know if there is a God or not."

if you exist, you are in pain. there is no joy in the ego. happiness comes from a fully illumined state and all happiness before that is imperfect, although good anyway
