The "rabbit hole" of there being no meaning or purpose to life might be deeper than you think.

I felt a distinct uneasiness when I read those words, so I would have to agree; yes, I intuit that it is deeper than I think. Where has the rabbit hole led you?
-------------------- “Strengthened by contemplation and study, I will not fear my passions like a coward. My body I will give to pleasures, to diversions that I’ve dreamed of, to the most daring erotic desires, to the lustful impulses of my blood, without any fear at all, for whenever I will— and I will have the will, strengthened as I’ll be with contemplation and study— at the crucial moments I’ll recover my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

and more desire to find a simple way of living and loving.
This is your belief system. There is no evidence that there is a simple way of living or loving. That IME is wishful dreaming. And down the rabbit hole you go.
Veritas is so right on this one. It may take some years to find out what she is talking about but if you do, to quote Don Juan, "it will deliver a blow that no one can parry".

Yes, the philosophical junk drawer can be tough to sift through. So many rubber bands, dried-out markers, bottle openers, match books, old batteries, miscellaneous parts for mystery appliances and other mental detritus, can make discerning the tools a real challenge.
Nothing like a great psychedelic trip and/or a week-long retreat to clear out the clutter, though!

Mankind is more gregarious than social. That means we have a herding instinct. that could explain a lot.

Yea but we have the social hierarchy of the herd as instinct. Don't you believe it?

From the presupposition that the herd instinct influences our predisposition we can draw conclusions as to the outcome of various situations.

What does this even mean? Do you mean to say that we are naturally inclined to social behaviour?

Although you aren't making any sense, it seems like what you are trying to say is that the human inclination towards being socially oriented is a problem. I don't see how this has anything to do with what was being discussed previously. Or how there is anything inherently problematic with people forming social bonds.

Oh I see. I kinda like my animal instincts. They keep me alert, tell me when to fight or run, let me know when someone sexy is in my vicinity, and tell me when to eat, drink and defecate. Important functions in the game of life. Of course I'm fond of my rational faculties as well, they help me organize the above listed in ways specific to my intended purposes.
