"if its black send it back, if its brown drink it down" lol
did you a spacer between the jars and bottom of PC? You dont want the jars to touch the bottom. Should be a metal spacer piece that comes with the PC.

Sometimes a piece of vermiculite sticks flat against the sides of my jars and looks black (or dark anyways), never had any problems with them though, you should post a pic as there are people here who will most likely know what it is.

You overcooked your jars. They are black and pungent smelling because they are burned. Its actually a pretty hard thing to do, but it is possible. It can occur when you have too little water in the pc, or you pc for too long. I've done the same with wbs, but only because i fell asleep and the seed had been pcing for 3 hours. Btw, it sounds as if you used too little water. "there is still some left after 45 mins" Your pc is NEVER supposed to go dry (or anywhere near it for that fact). My pc will never run out of water, but maybe because i shelled out a lot of money and got one with a "giggle" weight, not a rocker weight, which imho spits out much less steam. After a solid 90 mins in da pc, i lose probably ~100 ml of water to steam. questions like this come to mind... How big is your pc? How long did they pc? How experienced with a pc are you?
ps. Your supposed to reduce heat to low when the weight starts rockin. Only reason i said this, is because when i was a newbie, i pc'd at full heat for 60 mins and the brf cakes were indeed charred. Brf minus the F = Brown rice. Ever cooked rice too long? (somewhat easy to do) What happens? Black crud.

No. No, man. Shit, no man. I believe you'd get your ass kicked sayin' somethin' like that man.

thanks for the reply
Im not sure about the actual size of my pc, but it was the cheapest and smallest in the shop.
I PCd for 45 mins, thats what i meant when I said there was still water left in the PC after 45 mins, as in it never ran out half way through. I always put about a pint and a half in. Im not too experieced with a PC, ive used it about 5 times with no problems before. I put it on full heat until the top starts to twist, then turn down the heat so its just about moving.

Are you turning the heat down once its reached pressure, your suppose to adjust the heat so that the weight is just bobbing and very little steam is escaping, not hissing like made and the weight bobing furiously
