Oh, and there were these DAMN Fakers! I had these guys pegged for psilocybe.... but the cap was a little flaky and, alas... the spore print was orange...

A couple of days ago though... found some other cyans... check out that Hygrophany!
HOT, HOT Hygrophany...!

I'm going to take a chance and speculate that the dwarf azurescens that you are finding are the same thing being found in the San Francisco area. Which is probably Psilocybe subaeruginascens, a species from Japan. Wouldn't that be interesting? I actually hope that I am wrong about that since a new species would be more exciting.

Funny - After corresponding with you (Workman) I was going through some pictures at Sporeworks and elsewhere online today, and came to this same conclusion!
It pretty much fits the bill.
And now another picture is making me really wonder... One of the cool things is the way these mushrooms I've picked dry with this sort of silvery blue sheen on the caps... which I also see in the picture Stamets uses for Subaeruginascens in his PMOTW manual.
Me thinks perhaps this is that shroom!

Dude. I have seen MANY of the Ps. subaeruginascens up close, and the umbo on that specimen you just posted is a dead on perfect match for this species!!
Here is an album of photos of Ps. subaeruginascens found in the Bay Area: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v101/CureCat/Ps%20crispii/?start=all
It is labeled "Ps. crispii" because that is what my friend called them before they were identified.
Can you get a photo of the gills of these guys???
As you can see in that album, all the specimens have super wavy lamelle which straighten out somewhat at maturity, but still have a slight waviness.

One thing though, regarding this being a Subaerugblahblah.... Stamets has them fruiting in Summer months in Norther Hemisphere (Japan) These didn't being fruiting until WELL after the cyanescens flushes.
And he doesn't mention a seperable pellicle, which I've in fact found on these...
thoughts?

It does look a bit gooey but the surface is described as viscid when moist. Microscopically the samples from San Fran match well with P. subaeruginascens but that is still just a best match and not definative. So even if the Seattle samples match the San Fran samples there is still some question if they are identical to P. subaeruginascens. The cooler weather fruiting does pose a problem.

The CA Bay Area variety fruits most prolifically in Spring. It seems to prefer warm weather and lot of rain, though, it does tend to produce smaller flushes during the Fall rains.
