Ive been reading for a while now and this is what Ive came up with. I really like the Liquid Culture tek, but i don't think i will be able to make it myself at this time so i will be purchasing some pre made, sterilized LC from mushymart.com: http://www.the-shroom-room.com/store/product.php?productid=16186&cat=270&page=1. i have also decided to inject the PE strain, from sporeworks.com, into the LC. after this has fully colonized i will take the mycelium and inject that into a substrate bag that does everything for you, it grows right in the bag. I'm not sure who or what type of bag i will purchase but this will be my way of going about the grow for my first time. feel free to lay down your advice, input, or exp. I'm open to everything. thanks

Not much advice to give; that's a reasonable course of action.

My personal experience with liquid cultures is rather limited because they making detecting contaminates rather difficult - the mycelium of most common contaminates appears identical when grown out in a liquid culture...however, if you're plan is to purchase a pre-made spawn bag from a vendor the instructions should be rather straight-forward...- 1. inoculate liquid culture with spore solution
- 2. allow liquid culture to incubate at room temperatures for a week or so
- 3. using a much larger gauge (sterilized) needle (turkey baster syringe comes to mind) draw out several CC's of the liquid culture and inoculate the spawn bag
- 4. incubate at room temperatures until bag appears 25% colonized and squish/squeeze bag to break up and redistribute the mycelium throughout the bag
- 5. Repeat step four (4) at 50% colonization
- 6. Repeat step four (4) at 75% colonization
- 7. Induce fruiting stage by dumping the bag into a bulk tray and adding a pasteurized casing layer or fruit in-vitro in the bag by cutting several large slits on top to allow increased fresh-air exchange and exposing it to a 12/12 light cycle with a light-source in the 5000-6500K (kelvin) color temperature range. Fluorescent bulbs of the "daylight" variety are ideal for this purpose.
Keep in mind however, that liquid cultures are designed to either increase available spore solution or for short-term culture preservation when agar-medium filled petri-dishes/master-culture-slant test tubes are unavailable. If you're only going to be doing a small number of bags you could get the same results simply by inoculating the bags with several CC's of the spore-solution in your original syringe. The liquid culture is a completely unnecessary step that introduces an additional vector for contaminations...

Don't mistake my tone for a "matter-of-fact" attitude. I'm just presenting what I believe to be correct, until I'm corrected... - How Myco-Curious Prepares Coir & Compost Substrates - How Myco-Curious Builds A Bulk Humidifier - How Myco-Curious Builds An Automated Greenhouse ------------------------------------ figgusfiddus said: Keep in mind that inoculating or whatever in front of a flow hood won't help your bad substrate, your bad inoculant, your bad sterile procedure, etc. etc. etc. It's not a +3 flowhood of magic, it's just a tool.

this would be cheaper and easier, but i had read that using just spore solution is frowned upon. if you can, mycocurious, pm. thanks

? It's not frowned upon at all, or at least there's absolutely no reason to be. This is the natural means of production.
People are enthusiastic about liquid culture, as it exponentially multiplies the most expensive element of growing, the syringe.
$15 isn't going to kill you if you decide to grow again though...and I agree, there's little reason to risk contamination if you're growing a handful of cakes for a first try.
