yes, you think that it is funny. but your laughter would subside quickly when you are spotted by someone who does not think that trespassing for mushrooms is harmless, or funny.

that is just one of my own far out theories. but maybe you are invincible, so it should not apply to you.

Thankfully the farmers out here aren't the rocksalt and shotgun toting type. I guess either they'll call the cops on you or invite you in for a beer.

or call them, then invite you in for a beer when they wait for them to arrive. either way, my guess is that not every livestock owner in the country of Australia is that easy going, but to each their own.

and i wonder if there has ever been a person in the country of Australia that was ever arrested for trespassing on a cow pasture and/or in possession of unlawful Psilocybian mushrooms.

i suppose that trespassing is the best option for Australians. maybe getting permission from a land owner would be a poor decision.

I'm a farmer, wouldn't take too kindly to torches (flashlights?) down the back paddock in the middle of the night or wanderers during the day. If someone asked that's different, you make up your mind on a case by case basis. Ask yourself how you would feel if it was your place, farmers are just the same as anyone else, some even dig shrooms.

Unless you look like the farmers idea of a criminal (whatever that is), there's nothing wrong with knocking on the door and asking the question. Cameras and an obvious genuine interest go a long way.

I have jumped fences to get shrooms years ago but was never entirely comfortable, much better to be able to relax and enjoy it.

Not necessary to get into a US Vs Aussy farmer attitude debate, people are essentially the same, it's the governments that vary. Our laws are less supportive of landowners going for the shotgun, no excuse for it, as there is none for getting caught trespassing. The 'ask' approach could quickly generate a small network of fields in your area you could have fun in safely after a brief phone call. Great little project...unless you need the adrenaline that is.

I'll qualify. My family on my mother's side are all on the land. All of them own a .22 of course but from what i understand the licensing laws on what you can do with one are pretty tight and wouldn't extend to shooting trespassers for sport.

I went to a doof once that was in the bush but in an area bordered by farms. The bush was state property but the area used as a car park was a paddock secured with the permission of the owner beforehand.

That night, farmers, all kitted out in their moleskins, each of them with about 20 kelpies in tow decided to find out what the hell that noise was coming out of the bush. Upon finding a few hundred hippies dancing around in the (state owned) bush next to their farm, not one of them called the cops or complained despite the doof going on till about midday the next day and their general disbelief that the organisers had gotten permission from the neighbours to use their paddock as a carpark. Instead, they each went back to grab a case and joined in. Their dogs and all.

I didn't say that, why would you suppose that? I was saying that if someone was caught trespassing, you'd less likely be shot at. More likely you'd either have the cops called on you or they'd go to talk to you. As farmer88 said its probably more due to the gun laws and attitudes than the idea that Australian people are 'nicer'.

Well luckily your gun laws are stricter, in Texas you dont have to have a license, you dont have to register your gun, you dont have to be any age (sorta), they dont background check you. And day or night if they feel you are a threat to their life they can shoot and kill you legally...

Ive found it best (when visiting other peoples land) that there NOT be a house/barn on the property. Also woods coverage around the field is good (blocks the road from seeing you real good) and also some woods at the back of the field to run through in worst case scenario

BUT you can always tell the farmer you would like to take some pictures of his beutiful cows or land or nature...

Honestly i dont know how well the old "Im a mycology student" would work because farmers (atleast in texas) know what kind of mushrooms grow on cow shit and they know why you are there.. They dont take kindly to being lied to or screwed around like fools

most of the farmers where I pick are old czechs, i mean like real oldschool. One time me and some buddies were picking a field(without a house) that has a creek running through it. well there was this old czech dude fishing off the bridge at the end. He thought it was cool that people in america still pick mushrooms, then he caught a fish.
