Varying levels of apprehension, Smoking vs. Orally

So while I've still yet to try smoking nn-dmt, I have smoked 5-meo a few times and it seems like I've had to take some deep breaths beforehand each time to calm myself down. Meanwhile, the last time I drank ayahuasca I knew that I was about to embark on something possibly pretty heavy but I pretty much just belted it down without experiencing any hyperactive respiration (hyperventilation?) or anything like that beforehand. In retrospect, I probably should have been more apprehensive because the yage ended up kicking my ass.
But this has me wondering why there's any difference in the amount of tension experienced. I get the same way before I'm about to smoke salvia now too. The first time I smoked salvia was my most powerful salvia trip so far and I accredit that to the fact that I didn't know much about it at the time and I was pretty skeptical about it. Does anybody else experience this though? Is it just a sign of your lungs getting nervous? I know that sounds stupid. I'm just trying to venture a guess here.

its a sign of your ego tightening its grip on itself because it knows that its about to get pummeled into oblivion in a few seconds

Forgive the potential obviousness of my answer, but I'm sure it must have something to do with the fact that smoking a drug produces (almost) instantaneous effects while the effects come on much slower if taken orally. When you're dealing with substances as powerful as 5-Meo-DMT, DMT, and salvia, the prospect of smoking them can feel like you're about to jump off the edge of a 100-foot diving board... and not without good reason. Ingesting them (as in the form of huasca) seems more like wading into the pool, though ironically the pool may be deeper and your ultimate experience more intense.

That sounds like a pretty good way to put it. But what I want to know is why is that feeling so much more prevalent with smoking shit.
Probably it's just because of the much faster come up, huh? You know it's not gonna be something you can work your way into a little at a time. Sound good?

Great minds.
So I'm not the only that gets that way though, huh?

And forgive me, please. I guess I'm a little sleepy tonight.
Got some bastard-ass rodents of some sort up in my attic scratching at the ceiling and keeping me up at night.
God bless the saints that invented ear plugs and d-con.
