if one were using "Eric's Guide" (for azures/cyans) and noticed what appeared to be (for lack of a better description) black dust scattered on the fuzzy growth atop the wood chips (pre-cold shock), would this be normal or a problem?

thank you!

Sounds like a contaminate but without an image it's hard to positively id. could be a pin mold or something from the aspergillus species...

Keep in mind that inoculating or whatever in front of a flow hood won't help your bad substrate, your bad inoculant, your bad sterile procedure, etc. etc. etc. It's not a +3 flowhood of magic, it's just a tool.
