Coon was a good friend.

This is coon getting some closeup shots of a bee hive. The guy had guts!  You can't see it in the picture, but there were thousands of bees swarming around that hollow tree at the top of the rock face.

This is Coon holding a box turtle he found. I asked him if he really used the shells for lamp shades and he said no. But he told me about another guy, I think he called him Buddy, who frequented his hunting grounds and did kill turtles to sell the shells to be made into lamp shades.

Coon showed me one of his ginseng patches, which was really cool because I had never found ginseng, despite years in the woods!

Buddy had raided the patch and dug up most of the plants, (out of season of course), but he missed this one. This is the first ginseng plant I ever saw. Thank you Coon!
Coon taught me all about ginseng, its habitat and life cycle. This year I bought 7000 seeds and planted them in suitable habitat on public land. Thanks for the inspiration Coon!

This is Coon's log cabin in eastern Pennsylvania where he lived with his wife, mother in law, and two little girls. My condolences to Mrs. Coon and his daughters.

Coon and his family are good people, and very hospitable. Mrs. Coon prepared a feast for us while Coon and I were hunting mushrooms, and she even gave me this framed photo of Coon's picture of the month winner.
Thank you so much for the photograph Mrs. Coon. I will treasure it forever.

Coon and I talked about a lot of things on our hunt, including his struggle with heroin. When I met Coon in July he spoke about his addiction as if it were in the distant past, something he had overcome a long time ago. It's really sad that it came back to kill him.

You will be missed Coon and you will be remembered well.

Damn! I only read the hunting forum occasionally but connected with Coon's posts well. I guess it has a lot to do with the fact that we are both in our late 30's, and live in a geographically similar rural eastern area. He posted a lot of pics that looked like ones I take while spending a lot of time in the woods here.

Very sad news indeed. My heart goes out to his friends and family. Especially his wife and children. I know my wife and two kids would be beyond devastated if they lost me this early in life.

I was afraid of that. He had mentioned how he lost friends to H, and used to have a problem with it.... I wonder what got him started on that shit again. Such a shame that the poison he hated with passion, got him in the end.

I'll will not forget your warnings, coon. I only wish that you too could have evaded its lethal draw.

I love H, so I hate H, it's a romance that no one needs to start.
Unfortunately... the pharms are what started my love affair.
