adding tryptamine to substrate?

I read in stamet's ID guide, that the addition of a small amount of tryptamine to the substrate, vastly improves potency. i ordered a Chinese herb, called "bai ji li" (cheap, at $1.99 per pound), that is a natural source of tryptamine, and hope to incorporate it into future projects. i was wondering whether any of you senior mycologists have any experience with this concept? and, if so, do you have any ideas about the right way to go about it?

the book is over 30 years old at this point and it's no longer considered the word of god. There are a good number of posts on this in the archives but the bottom line is that it doesn't do squat because the mycelium has no need/ability/mechanism to cross-convert the amino acids into it's own active compound.

To go even further, should you be inclined to ingest either/both of the compounds at the same time, there would be little enhancement of the experience from the actives...

Stamets simply quoted Gartz's experiments. Nobody who has tried to duplicate the experiment has done so, thus it's not valid. For any science to be valid it must be duplicable by non-interested third parties.
Since we know that mushrooms can have up to a five-fold increase or decrease in potency from grow to grow, or flush to flush, or even among fruits from the same flush, I theorize that's what led Mr Gartz's error. RR
