Psychedelic Poll - Anybody Can Participate
    #7598458 - 11/05/07 01:04 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

A friend of mine is writing a paper for school and needs to conduct a survey. He asked me to go ahead and ask this question, so here goes...

Here's the question: Has the psychedelic experience changed you permanently?

He said that all he needs is a yes or a no. Also, he said that you can elaborate if you wish.

Thank you.
Have psychedelics changed you permanently?
You may choose only one

I haven't really tripped enough or had an intense enough trip for anything really life-changing to happen just yet.

Where I would be without psychedelics is a drab and boring world. God knows what I would do with all my time if I wasn't thinking about my first trip. Or the second one. Or the third... and so on.

I have changed. But i don't know if i want to participate in this poll. usually questions about people's lives being changed are related to negative experiences.

I would have to a say that most people have great life changeing experiences and a fraction of people who have really terrifying bad trips are scared for life.

So if you could please note the amount of people who saay that tripping has changed their lives possitively. Don't just turn in the answers to this poll as a yes or no. Because most surveys would probably see those "yes" votes as being a negative thing.

Not necessarily.. I don't assume that people who say yes had a bad experience, you could just as easily have a good life changing experience or realization

This is kind of a silly question...a psychedelic experience will change you, but so will any experience. Our identities are based on a complex web of responses to events over the courses of our lives. That is why no two people are exactly alike. So yeah, psychedelics have changed me. So did watching Seinfeld earlier today. Sorry if I'm trivializing the question, but it's really a matter of degree as apposed to a yes or no sort of thing.

Dude, I totally agree, and yes, I find the question to be rather silly as well. However, sometimes you are restricted by the natural scienes to provide evidence of that which is obvious, and if I am not mistaken, I do believe that this is the reason as to why my friend asked me to ask this.

EVERY experience we have changes us permanently.

It might not change our behavior drastically, but we remember it and take it into account when we make decisions.
That shit is fact.

Yes, psychedelics have permanently changed me, both for good and bad.

For the last 3 years I've been using psychedelics pretty heavily. I trip at least once a month, most of the time more than that. I've eaten mushrooms well over 30 times, I've done 2C-I around 15-20 times, I've done various other RC's, I've taken acid maybe 15 times, I've smoked salvia quite a few times, and I've done shit loads of N20 and combined N20 with many of my trips.

The mushrooms changed me for the better, they made me really appreciate nature and they change my view on life/reality.

My LSD+N20 breakthroughs also changed me for the better. It changed me for the better by pretty much showing me the meaning of life, it basically showed me the secrets of the universe. It completely changed the way I look at life/reality/my spirituality and the universe, but in a good way. If I'm ever feeling sad or mad, I just think about what I saw during those breakthroughs and it makes me realize that all the small shit doesn't really matter, in the end we all become one, everything=everything. If I'm every feeling frustrated I just think back to those breakthroughs and it takes all my worries away.

But at the same time all of these mind blowing experiences were so intense that they've kind of weirded me out a little bit too. (that's why I'm afraid to smoke DMT, I don't know how much more weird I want to be) It's kind of affected me socially in a negative way, I feel different from others and it's given me a little bit of social anxiety, and a little bit of anxiety in general.

POSITIVE CHANGES:
Greater appreciation for nature
Greater appreciation for life
It's helped me look at the world/ universe in a different way
It's had a very positive impact on my spirituality

NEGATIVE CHANGES:
It's kind of weirded me out a little bit
It's given me more social anxiety.

Overall the positive changes greatly outweigh the negatives. The weirdness and social anxiety are really small changes, I'm still the same old person, just a little different. All of the positive changes are pretty significant and definitely outweigh the negatives.

I'm happy with the way psychedelics have changed me. If I could go back in time I wouldn't change a thing.

[edit]- Now that I think of it, I won't know if those slight negative effects are permanent - (and I doubt they are) - until I stop using psychedelics for a couple of years.

I'm pretty sure the positive changes are life long though.
