You gotta have super good eyes to be a sniper though.
oh ok, kind of like the seabees?
i have excellent vision and i am already an excellent shot at 500 yeards with just a crappy rem. 7mm mag. i could do great things with the rifles the military has.
well i say i would if they could promise me sniper, but honestly i dont think i could spend the extended periods away from my woman. we both have friends that are in active duty and it is so stressful on them and their significant others. especially the ones with kids.
Yeah there is no way you could get guaranteed a sniper. At least not in the Army. I don't know what the Marines do but if you proved yourself to be a good mark they might assign it to you.

That's a great skill to have for when you get out.

There's no way I would go into the military unless I was going in as an officer. I've contemplated the fact a couple times because I'd like to get grad school done soon and don't want to pay for it... I've even talked to a recruiter a couple times but that stack of forms you have to fill out puts me off every time haha.
I've got a buddy that's in recon in the marines and they want to make him a sniper even though he's got pretty shitty vision without his glasses.

I'm enlisting in the marine corps in about a year. I know most people here don't agree with what the government leaders are doing...but its the military's job to go "I don't know if thats the right thing to do" so lay off of the military guys. In fact, you should all be somewhat thankful that people are willing to go fight. If our government wants to go to war, they will go to war regardless if we have enough military personnel, meaning they will draft. So if its not them, it could be you...down the politicians that make the decision to go to war...not the military.

Yeah that is why I'm pretty stoked. Get hooked up with a nice job and I heard I can get into the union pretty nicely with Army credentials.

On that note: I hate it when the 'Support The Troops' rhetoric overwhelms real debate as to whether or not war is even necessary/justified. Wouldn't the best way to support the troops be to ensure that their presence in the war zone is required and consistent with their beliefs and causes? ...Just a random, poorly organized thought.
Anyways, I hope for your sake that you don't have to kill anyone, or do anything that goes against what you believe in. And I hope you know for certain why you're joining, and where you stand on military/political issues. Good luck.

Don't change your mind after the fact and get a dishonorable discharge. You'll have a tough time getting work after that.

Probably from E1 to E2. He is still a Private but he will be paid more for attending basic training and he also gets a chevron. After basic training and advanced training, him and all his classmates will all be promoted to the same rank, E4 or Specialist.

Many "high-rankingmilitary" have attended a military academy. Take a look at the credentials you need to get in there. They only accept the academic elite. Hardly people with a "slight brain".

I'm actually going to E3 before I even get into basic.
