Could shaking a jar before it colonizes slow down or halt growth?
    #7597213 - 11/05/07 01:18 AM (16 years, 2 months ago)

I knocked up 6q jars a week ago and I am getting very little growth.
I have already lost one jar to black mold and I suspect another is contaminated.

This is the jar with the most growth

I did shack the jars right after inoculation.
I have noticed that some of the grain looks different, kind of fuzzy but it isn't MYC. Any one know what it is?

Is slow colonization do to the substrate or the spores?

I'm thinking its the spores.
I usually have complete colonization in 2 weeks give or take a couple days.

I was thing about asking for a replacement.
But I don't know if that a good idea or not.
Is it?

Found this post months back and bookmarked it, as I do with lots of RR's old posts. I hope he doesn't mind me posting this link

It looks to me like the grain isn't fully hydrated.

I actuality over soaked my grain to the point that it started to sprout. Then I followed RR's grain prep tek
