i made an incubator using a 50 watt aquarium heater submersed in a jar of water, placed inside of an 18 gallon rubber maid container... i have the heater set at 89 degrees. the temp of the water inside of the jar is a constant 99.2 degrees but the air temp inside of my chamber wont go any higher than 80.2 degrees. any way i can bring it up by 4-6 degrees or do you think that its ok for good mycelium growth.

ive tried that method and had mixed results. i found the inside tub got very humid and the condensation caused some of my jars to grow mold. i now use a small beer fridge with a 15w tube light and a small reptile heater and the temp hovers around 84 degrees. cheers!

I wouldn't have the ambient temps higher than 80(F) at any time without starting to feel a little worried. You have to remember that the internal temps of your mycelium colony within the substrate will be several degrees higher as it generates it's own heat. Keep in mind that a tray of bulk substrate can be up to 5-10(F) higher than the ambient temps around it and any temps over 82(F) internally becomes counterproductive.

Don't mistake my tone for a "matter-of-fact" attitude. I'm just presenting what I believe to be correct, until I'm corrected... - How Myco-Curious Prepares Coir & Compost Substrates - How Myco-Curious Builds A Bulk Humidifier - How Myco-Curious Builds An Automated Greenhouse ------------------------------------ figgusfiddus said: Keep in mind that inoculating or whatever in front of a flow hood won't help your bad substrate, your bad inoculant, your bad sterile procedure, etc. etc. etc. It's not a +3 flowhood of magic, it's just a tool.
