I've been wanting to get some blacklights for my room and create a really good tripping atmosphere. I've been looking at fluorescent minerals on ebay to kick things off, but they're pretty expensive for how small they are, so I can't really blanket the place in them. Anyone have some ideas of fluorescent things that might help? Natural ones are always a plus (plants, shrooms, etc.)

its not natural but laundry detegent has a high phosphorescence value. The only ultraviolate reactive minereals i know of are exactly what you said expensive. They are made from metamorphic rock. if you know your geology, granite and limestone, both pretty expensive are metamorphic. this would probably explain the price issue. maybe you could make a alcohol/detergent solution and soak some rocks in it. or you could use some of that grow paint from spencers.

I'm open to expensive solutions. It will just take me longer to put them into place. I don't have to buy everything all at one time.

well i recently learned that scorpions (yes, the animal [or bug]) fluoresce under UV light. Maybe get a pet or two.
Blacklights are pretty cheap. The most expensive part would probably be the fixture if you make it expensive. I got mine for only $8. I got two 4 foot long bulbs, (the thick kind too) for about $35. If you add it up, it isn't that much for how much UV it gives off. Its incredible.
But my advice would be to get a light fixture that is over $8. Mine sucks really badly. The bulbs will go out if they are touched or even breathed on (exxaguration, but you get the point...) So don't be too stingy, but you don't have to be too spendy either.
Some things that I've done with my place is; I've gotten some fluorescent paper, and cut it into shapes and duct taped it on the walls. It looks amazing. I'll try to pull up a picture for you.... Here we go...

And this one is a styrofome head that i colored with highlighters...

What i did with the guy spitting out circles, is i put cardboard behind the circiles, and as they got bigger i added more and more cardboard to give it a feeling of depth, and to make it seem like it's popping out at you.
You can't very well take a blacklight with you to the crafts store and see which one's fluoresce, but most people are a pretty good judge, and paper is not expensive in the least.
Sorry the pictures are so blurry, the camera i used wouldn't just snap the pictures. It auto-adjusted the exposure time so soak up enough light, and i don't have the most steady hands...

actually, if you went out the night before your trip, and caught a bunch of white moths, im pretty sure it would look amazing. White flouresces without fail most of the time, and if it was flying around going towards the blacklight, it would make a pretty cool effect, as well as keep a poor moth happy and warm inside of your home for a night.
That is, of course, if you don't mind there being some moths in your room for a day or two.

Wow, those banners look awesome, but they'd have to be made out of freshly dried shrooms for me to spend that kind of money on them.
Drew, the thing with the paper is kick ass. I think if I was more artistic that would work great for me, but I think my wall would look more like a psychedelic kindergarten project
Maybe I'll go headshop hunting or something for some good priced local stuff.
