taking time off from school
    #7595644 - 11/04/07 06:09 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

it's been years now. and this time i need to take action before i fail every single class.

i need to take time off from college. it's only my second year, and i haven't even finished my first term. but i'm thinking about taking the next two terms off.
i need this break, and have needed it for a while.

i am going to work full time, and maybe after doing that for a while, i'll want to come back to school. which is fine. but i need some time off from school.
but before i am stuck working full time. i want to travel.

i want to travel in january. for maybe about a month. i'm really into photography (my life won't be complete unless i travel and photograph. it's all i want..) and nature.
i live in oregon and love it here. i moved here from after living in florida for 18 years. i hate florida because of it's extremely hot and humid weather and all the themeparks and not enough nature.
i'm dating someone that graduated last year, we are very alike for the most part (same birthday, though he is three years older). and he is thinking about going back to south america for vacation in january. south america is actually not that high on the interest list of travels for me. because of the weather.
though it's the only place he wants to go. therefore. if i want to travel, it has to be there, because i'm not too sure it would work out to travel alone, and i have not found anyone else that shares the same travelling needs as i.

he went to costa rica a few years ago, as a solo travel.
he liked it enough to go back, though he might try a different country.

my point in posting this is wondering where the best place in south america to travel in january without the harsh hot humid climates?
and this is posted here, because i mentally and physically can't handle travelling around somewhere that just feels like florida weather wise for a month. especially if we'll be doing a lot of backpacking/hiking/outdoors every single day.

does your school offer a study abroad program?

mine does and, although i dont really want to leave here, i think it would be a cool opportunity.

there's a way that you can continue with college and travel at the same time..

..just a thought

good luck.

i couldn't get in until next year. and even so, my gpa has to be pretty high to do that, and i can't keep it up when apathy and disgust has been getting worse for classes each week.
i'm already failing a class, and hardly care enough to do anything about it.

i was going to do that. i was going to do new zealand. a environmental science program.
i was hoping i could wait that long, but it's starting to be obvious that i unfortunately can't..

Weather wise Greece or southern Italy might be nice . A flight to from NewYork City to Madrid costs about $500 one way.
(OK, I just read the South America bit.)

i'll be flying out of portland, oregon.

i'd love to go to iceland. $200 round flight out of baltimore, md (which is a good place to fly out of considering that's the airport i fly in/out of my dad's from)

would love to go to greece. but probably have to stick with south america for now.

have you been to madrid?

I feel you wearejellyfish. I am a second year college student as well. i am at this big ass school with so many people. I have no 'true' friends. And I want to get the hell out of here. I could use some time off, but I would rather get my degree and then take time off for a year or so out of college. 50,000+ students. That is insane.

I really want to travel to EU...so many places. I know people in england, scotland, madrid, and munich.

Listen to your heart, but use your head. Go travel, go do what you want. But also keep in mind the future. You have a good plan already about going back to school. easier said than done though. I know people who said they were simply taking a break and never came back.

Too bad we live on opposite sides of the US or I would suggest a trip of some sorts.

where do you go to school? my school only has 20,000
i'm glad you feel the same way, as well as being a second year

at least you know people in those places! that helps a lot.
well i'd come back cause i most likely need a degree if i expet to make a living.
but who knows what will happen in the time i take off.

I go to Ohio State Uni.  I love it and I hate it. I hate many of the people as they are the same type of peoples from your high school that were sweet and what not. But I love it because Columbus is an awesome city with a good music scene and good people though they are hard to find.

It just sucks because it is so hard to find quality REAL people. Everyone is too caught up in their daily routines to give two shits about anyone else. They may act like they do, but they don't.  Good luck on finding your path though. :psychsplit:

nice. i get you on the people.
they're a lotttt more laid back here in oregon compared to florida. which i love. but i still hate how some people still make me feel like i'm surrounded by high school kids.

thank you. :]
