harvest/yield of liquid mycellium for use in chocolates
    #7594437 - 11/04/07 12:33 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

Hello All, this is the first post and i have been spending all my time i have off from work and investing it into reading and becoming more educated about this sweet hobby i stumbeled across. Anyways enough bs, off to my question

I currently have 18 pint size jars of brownrice/vermiculite and for the first time, i think everything is going great. I also knocked up 3 jars of liquid.

Jar 1: Karo Syrup
Jar 2: Honey, from the bear
Jar 3: Kick arse blueberry honey

It is growing very well and i can see more mycellium in each every day.

Ok, so heres the question:

How do i know when the liquid jars are finished (i started from spores)
will it fill the entire jar like a sponge? or will it just be kinda full?

anyways, the plan is to dry the mycellium (haven't decided how yet) and grind it up and make me and my best buddy some mycellium chocolates.

Could someone post a picture of a fully colonized liquid jar.
Mine are pint size with 4% solutions. Whats the average yield of a jar and how much mycellium is a decent dose?

Sorry for the lengthy story and all, I'm just having a hard time finding any info on when to harvest my mycellium.

You can take mycelium out at any time once there is some in there. As far as fully colonized, it's pretty much up to you as far as how much you want in there. At some point though, there will be no more nutrients in the LC and I guess that's when it's 'fully colonized'. I usually just start pulling it out as i need it, just to make new LCs or new jars. Hope this helps any.

wait, are you talking about using a liquid cultures to trip off of?

That would not work. LCs are used to inoculate substrate, so you can start the mycelium growth faster, without waiting for the spores to germinate. Just be patient and grow the mushrooms!

Why are you trying to harvest mycelium? its not the most potent thing you can get, and you might as well just fruit the stuff. The reward is a looooot greater.

Edit: nevermind, you edited your post so this doesn't make sense. I thought you meant you are using cultures from an LC to put in chocolate. You made it more clear now. I'd make a tea from the mycelium. Putting myc into chocolate wouldnt be too easy.

Well, I forgot to toss the magnetic stir bars into the jars and i don't want to risk contamination in trying to put one in, so I've been shaking them but it still won't be syringe-able. I read in a tek that you can harvest, dry, and consume mycelium and it seemed like a decent idea. Mycelium contains psilocybin so it would be possible to simply consume the mycelium and trip, right? If so, how much? does anyone else do this or only the guy who wrote that tek? ha ha

Thanks for the speedy responses

I did it a few times, but the fruits are definately much more worth it. I found that one pf jar of mycelium made into tea, i was able to get to sleep.

What i did, was i got some orange juice, crumbled up the mycelium as finely as possible, and put it into the orange juice. I then shook it vigourously, and (i left this step out due to me being pressed for time) should have left it in the fridge for a few hours to let it soak.

How long did you let your jars go for? and was it pint or half pint jars? And was it a valid trip (at least level 1) or was it crappy?

Young myc is no good for triping, while it is possible to trip of myc its only feasable form older myc that has fruited. So your just better of using your LC to knock up jars and fruit them in what ever manor you fancy.

On another not im not sure if a LC would have the right nuitrients to even produce any alkoloids, i know that white flour will grow mushrooms but the potency is nothing.

The Foolproof Psilocybe Cubensis Mycelial Culture Technique

The Psilocybin Producer's Guide

Are these two teks not worth following? The FPCMCT looks solid and states that it is a successful method. The PPG looks like a ton of work for not a whole lot of goodness. Are these teks garbage or is it worth a shot?

The jars were 95% colonized, and the trip was alright. Very mindfucky, though less than intense. They were 1/2 pint jars. (edit: i took one at the most for one trip)

It was definately noticable, and i might do it again given the chance, but wasting mycelium because you are impatient is stupid in my opinion. I really regretted doing it a few weeks later when it was time to fruit and i had a few less cakes to use.

Edit: so i'm guessing if you do it right, a 1 pint jar of fairly well colonized myc will do the trick. Though one flush off of one of them should do the trick multiple times.
