After reading another post, I have decided to help you all out and share my vast knowledge of awesome movies. The list I will compile for you here will save you endless amounts of time while browsing through the huge pile of feces known as "Blockbuster Video". With my help, you will soon enter a world of movies the likes of which you never dreamed possible. Simply print out this page, and keep it with you at all times. Tattoo it on yourself if at all possible. Its that good.
In no particular order...
The Beach Brokedown Palace 28 Days Later Night of the Living Dead (1968 or 1990, it matters not) Dawn of the Dead (2005 is essential) Resident Evil The Fifth Element Logan's Run Romeo and Juliet (Leo and Clair) 2LDK (Jap) Battle Royal (Jap) The Last Life in the Universe (Thai) Love me if you Dare (French) (Leon) The Professional Killer Klowns from Outer Space (I'm not even kidding) The Cube Ninja Scroll (Jap Animation) The Princess Bride The Dark Crystal Labrinth Pulp Fiction Equilibrium This Girls Life Dogville Amelie (French) Feast Big Trouble in Little China House of Nine Sublime (Raw Feed) The Devils Arithmetic Trainspotting Willow Clerks Legends of the Fall Serendipity High Fidelity Underworld Return to Paradise Rent Night of the leapus (I think it is spelled like that) The Secret of Nimh One Flew Over the Cookoo's Nest Memento Before Sunset Scarface Die Hard Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Kill Bill 1 & 2 Lolita Beetlejuice Boys Don't Cry The Lion in Winter Westworld The Usual Suspects Lawn Dogs Sid and Nancy Robocop Starship Troopers My Own Private Idaho Great Expectations Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb Jenna Haze: Darkside
There is just too many of them. Oh well, This list should keep you all busy for a while. More to come later perhaps.

I hope you're joking. It really does matter. The original is by far better.

I have to agree with you. I love horror flicks, but it's hard for me to find a good one. I love the ones that leave you afraid to leave the couch. They don't make them like they used to.

Yes it is Porno, and a damn fine one. No, I'm not joking. I am solidly of the opinion everyone likes the 1968 better because its a "Classic" or just because its unacceptable to say the new version is better. Whats better in the 1968 ? Acting? Definitely not. The plot? Same, word for word. Overall quality? 1968 was low quality even for its time. It stays because it is irrefutably awesome, but not better than 1990. Oh, and all these movies are good. I've seen like 95% of them, and really like like 95% of the ones I've seen. The post that caught my eye was Braveheart, shawshank, blow guy up there. OK, with good enough taste to like movies like blow, and shawshank, how did you wind up with the gigantic pile of cinematic diarrhea braveheart on your list? That movie was good for the five min he was tortured and killed.

I've seen it. I have a friend that is from the town gummo is based on (xenia, ohio) and he made me watch it after I visited xenia. Xenia really is in a different matrix than the rest of the country, its just as shitty as the movie makes it out to be. I thought it was fucking hilarious because I'd been to the town but a lot of people don't like it. I think its got a bad ass sound track as well cause its got some acid bath on there (I'm a huge fan).
I guess the guy that did kids did gummo as well.

^ City of God - I second that. This is one of the most powerful, moving films you'll ever see. It was based on a true story, too.
I've got to add a few I didn't see mentioned:

honerable mention: eternal sunshine vanilla sky (despite terrible acting) die hard 3

could you all recommend me some good light hearted sci-fi movies that aren't horribly film and the acting isnt HORRIBLE?
a few of which i enjoyed were Aeon Flux Serenity Resident Evil (just to give you an idea on what i like.. incase you like the same)
or maybe some movies like 300. I like to get movies for the weekends and spend the first day (thursday) when classes end watching a good movie or two.
For this weekend (today) is Casino Royale and maybe any others I can find.
Any idea's of other movies to get/rent?

Hell yea snatch and lock stock are amazing, the first time i saw lock stock though i couldn't follow it for shit because i had no idea what anyone was saying. Really cool plots and great directing, along with an amazing soundtrack for each.
That said, for me the best film i have ever watched is Cidade De Deus (City of God). The story it tells is so riveting, i barely moved the entire first time i saw it. Directing is top notch, by any standards. Also this was really filmed in the slums of rio. A good portion of the characters in the film were people taken off the streets and taught to act in a matter of weeks. Great music throughout, amazing story, and the way it ends is perfect.
