I've seen it. I have a friend that is from the town gummo is based on (xenia, ohio) and he made me watch it after I visited xenia. Xenia really is in a different matrix than the rest of the country, its just as shitty as the movie makes it out to be. I thought it was fucking hilarious because I'd been to the town but a lot of people don't like it. I think its got a bad ass sound track as well cause its got some acid bath on there (I'm a huge fan).
I guess the guy that did kids did gummo as well.

^ City of God - I second that. This is one of the most powerful, moving films you'll ever see. It was based on a true story, too.
I've got to add a few I didn't see mentioned:
-One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest -Pan's Labyrinth -Brazil

i am a fan of:
Children of Men the Mad Max trilogy Fear and Loathing Fight Club Boondock Saints Reservoir Dogs Pulp Fiction Shaun of the Dead Hot Fuzz V for Vendetta The Thing All of the the Die Hard movies Waterworld The Brave Little Toaster Any of Mel Brooks movies The Fifth Element 300 Harold and Kumar ANY Zombie Flick
I have actually found my capability of watching almost any movie without being too dissapointed pretty stunning... So, I do watch a lot of these movies and enjoy them when in reality they can be pretty bad.

wow muffin, you like some shitty movies. underworld!?!?! underworld!?!?!?! hahahahahahahaha, resident evil, hahahahahaha.
here is mine: fight club the matrix (for its time! come on, when it first came out it cracked your head open with a baseball bat and your brains spilled out with awesomeness) brave heart the royal tenunbaums trainspotting jurrasic park star wars pi (am i the first one that said this?) montey python's the meaning of life 7 samuri (also first to say?) contact i heart huckabeess stranger than fiction adaptation
honerable mention: eternal sunshine vanilla sky (despite terrible acting) die hard 3
(man its spooky, most of the movies on my list are already so played out that they're dated and i'm sick of them and they seem silly. you have to judge it by "for its time" though)

could you all recommend me some good light hearted sci-fi movies that aren't horribly film and the acting isnt HORRIBLE?
a few of which i enjoyed were Aeon Flux Serenity Resident Evil (just to give you an idea on what i like.. incase you like the same)
or maybe some movies like 300. I like to get movies for the weekends and spend the first day (thursday) when classes end watching a good movie or two.
For this weekend (today) is Casino Royale and maybe any others I can find.
Any idea's of other movies to get/rent?
