Spawn to Sub Ratio
    #7592213 - 11/03/07 07:29 PM (16 years, 2 months ago)

I know it may have been discussed but I would like some info on it. Does more spawn mean bigger fruit? I know it colonizes faster and is less likely to contam but is that the only benefits of says doing half spawn half sub?

HAPPY SHROOOOOOMING

All spawn is is fully colonized substrate, so yes, those are the advantages.

For the ratios, a quick visit to the search engine using keywords Spawn ratio will give you lots of results. I personally use 4:1 don't really know why, the mix just looks right to me.

no, it won't cause larger fruits... however remember that bulk substrates generate a lot of heat and the faster it colonizes the more heat it will generate. And when bulk substrates overheat, they can ferment.

Keep in mind that inoculating or whatever in front of a flow hood won't help your bad substrate, your bad inoculant, your bad sterile procedure, etc. etc. etc. It's not a +3 flowhood of magic, it's just a tool.
