Grinder screened compartment question

I just bought a nice little metal grinder for "tobacco" at the local news stand. It works really well. There's a compartment on the other side of the grinder that has a screen separating the two parts. It looks like the tiny THC glands or crystals are supposed to go in here as you grind the weed. It must take forever to get anything smokable if that's the case.
Is that what this is for or is it simply just a place to store your dope?

you've got a kief catcher my friend. put a nickel in where the grinded "tobacco" falls, and shake it around when your green tobacco is in that compartment. the nickel will push the kief into the bottom compartment. depending on how much you use your grinder, you may have enough kief to smoke every 2 weeks or so. throw it in a blunt or use it to top off a bowl and you'll get super blazed
