Best METAL while tripping.

I see a ton of posts on here asking about what's the "grooviest" tripping songs, but I'd like to know if anybody else enjoys some heavy shit while feeling good (mainly with shrooms). Don't get me wrong I respect the classics, but sometimes you just need some metal.
These are some interesting songs to listen to while "riding the snake into the cosmos" :
*Heavy classics*
Iced Earth - Stormrider Black Sabbath - War pigs (All Sabbath is great)
*Death metal/Black metal*
Amon Amarth - Bloodshed Deicide - Once Upon the Cross Lamb of God - The Subtle Arts of Murder and Persuasion Cryptopsy - Slit Your Guts Cryptopsy - Phobophile (These guys are kind of an acquired taste, but an amazing band with one of the best drummer's I've ever seen)
*Speed metal and other mind blowing bands/songs*
Children of Bodom - Downfall Symphony X - Of Sins and Shadows Dragon Force - Fury of the Storm Dream Theater - Glass Prison
*Other Goodies*
Mastodon - Sleeping Giant (New cd is the best trippy music ever) Everygrey - As I lay here Dying Arch Enemy - Hybrids of Steel Aphex Twin - Come to Daddy
I'm the last person to try to push "my" music on others, but I am curious if anybody else has heard of or enjoys the above bands/songs while tripping. Sometimes you just can't beat some heavy guitar riffs and solos accompanied with insanely intricate drumming as far as entertainment goes...feel free to add any cool songs as well.

Lightning Bolt, not technically metal but crazy heavy and fricken amazing. Very awesome tripping.
Another vote for Mastodon too.
I listened to some Demons and Wizards on acid and that was pretty fucking intense. That is Jon Schaffer from Iced Earth and Hansi Kürsch from Blind Guardian.
I swear that crazy heavy bass makes shit warp and pulse like crazy on acid.
I would go for some Symphony X too.
Dream Theater, and Tool's Lateralus is pretty fucking sweet.
The Locust aren't really metal (post hardcore, experimental stuff) but they are pretty cool and really trippy.
Definitely check out Lightning Bolt though if you like metal this is just crazy fast heavy music, it's more dense and driving than pretty much anything else I have ever heard and it's just two guys. Especially their album Hypermagic Mountain.
Super cool trippy music.

The solos in Glass Prison are epic. For DT I'd also reccomend the entire 'Awake' album, "6:00", "Erotomania", and "Lie" are all rhythmically powerful and wholly engaging songs, lots of fun.
For Bodom I'd say anything, really, although Downfall is certainly a good one. Lsd showed me an ever greater substance to their music in a way.

I enjoy listening to Early to middle Iron Maiden, Tristania, Anthrax, Early Rammstein, KMFDM, Early In Extremo, Tool, some metallpca tracks...that's off the top of my head; There may be more, however I don't listen to much metal, much often. I do think metal is fuckin' excellent though!
One of the many benefits of having long hair, as well. I ain't got fuckin' hippie hair, it's fucking metal, homeslice.

The only two metal bands I've listented to while tripping were Odious (Egyptian black metal) and Reverend Bizarre (doom metal).
Odious sounded really good, but I felt it was a little....one-sided, maybe is the word. Like it only evoked images of spooky tombs and things, but didn't show who the ancient Egyptians were in daily life. Still enjoyable music though.
The only Reverend Bizarre song I listened to was Sadoma Sunrise. The speed of it was really torturously (is that a word?) slow. In a good way. I could really feel the conviction of every single note, every cymbal hit.

Tool is by far my favorite metal band to trip to I've listened to lateralus tripping more times than I can count, fucking awesome.
I wouldn't consider aphex twin metal that you have on your list but they are the shit, druqks (I don't think I'm spelling that right but to lazy to look) is a fucking great cd to trip to.
I love going to metal shows and jumping in the moshpit and fucking some people up while tripping its great. It so intense when people are hitting you and the base is so loud its shaking your insides, fucking intense. I've gotten leveled a couple times when I paid more attention to the strobe lights and shit going on that sucks though haha.
Limmerick: acid bath gets my vote as well they rock! If you've never listened to agents of oblivion (dax's other band) check it out they are awesome

Yea metal shows are quite interesting while tripping, I don't know if I would ever wanna go into a *good* moshpit all weirded out though. I gotta couple shows I'd like to go to over the next few months, I can't remember any except DevilDriver is one. They're great...I've seen theme before when they came to Baltimore City with Cradle of Filth one time, although I'm not too crazy about the shreiky black metal style of CoF.
Also yea I know Aphex Twin isen't metal but I figured it was worth throwing them in there. The video for Aphex Twin "Come to Daddy" would be an experience in itself while tripping balls.
...Btw I'm surprised no ones tried to screw up this thread with some "as-a-matter-of-of-fact" assinine post yet...I enjoy hearing everones opinions.

Cryptopsy has been one of my most respected death metal bands for a few years now...anybody else listen to these guys?
They're newest CD "Once Was Not" is something else, the only way I can describe it is like an insanely well orchestrated explosion of metal that needs to be heard multiple times to take it all in and appreciate it.
"Angelskin Garden" is on there and is a pretty good example of how they're music is unlike anything else, and doesn't follow any kind of conventional tempo or anything like that.

I think the definition of metal has shifted towards the aggressive pole thought the years. You have to consider the Beatles were considered rock back then. With a broader diversity of musical genres appearing nowadays , we tend to see some pretty extreme genres of music that have entered the metal category ( death , grind core , trash , doom , and countless other types of music) We can indeed consider led zeppelin to be metal : they had thundering drums and loud-ass instruments for the time . But then again , we also consider Iron Maiden to be Metal.
It's pretty hard to apply a single genre to a group , especially when they start having influences from several other musical genres ( The Mars Volta is pretty hard to label, for instance).
I think Tool is indeed Metal , due to the intensity of Danny Carey on drums and the aggressive guitar and bass. I'd say hard rock are groups like... Finger eleven , or Nickleback...etc.
As far as my suggestion. I'd go with A Change of Season from Dream Theater ( for its epic qualities) or Anesthetize from Porcupine Tree ( very progressive , explores several musical genres.)

Dream Theater wise, Id recommend John Petrucci's solo album if your into a lot of guitar work. Porcupine Tree is great, look up Dan Swano and Opeth as well if you check them out. Heres my list, every band gives a great atmosphere to a trip, however it may feel a bit overbearing to someone unfamiliar or not fond of the music. Here it goes...some technical death metal, black metal, melodic death metal, even some avant garde metal! Necrophagist Psycroptic Decapitated Mayhem and Burzum (Its a package deal with these two) Emperor Dawn Arcturus Dissection In Flames Death Opeth
grim stuff man, perhaps my biggest suggestion to trip to tho - sideshow symphonies by Arcturus. Im sure there are some other great contenders, as well.
peace, c

The heaviest stuff I listen to while tripping is Umphrey's McGee. That is some crazy shit but I don't know if I would classify it as "metal". More prog-rock Jam bandy music.

dude tool is definately metal. theres so many sub versions of metal its ridiculous. a perfect circle i guess you could maybe not consider that metal. but then they have some somewhat heavy songs.
really i think it all depends on the listener. like emo kids. they think fall out guy is heavy shit. FUCK NO

Opeth, Mastodon, anything Gaahl is in (Gorgoroth, GaahlSkagg, Trelldom), definitely Dream Theater (Stream of Consciousness FTW), and many more, but that's just off the top of my head. I'd imagine having the Opeth DVD Lamentations playing would be awesome.

No, metal is metal. I'm not a tool fan, but I've listened to laterlus and it sounded to me kind of like alternative/hard rock.

Do it, it's an amazing collage of sounds. It tends to stray from the metal genre quite a bit, but only in bars at a time. Heavy death metal riffage into a banjo solo, into crazy melodic sweeps. Best metal album of 2007

If you listen to shitty metal while tripping thats your own damn fault.
Id listen to nine inch nails while tripping before half of the bands mentioned.
I should know....im in a band right now that is so heavy that it might as well be called metal-pop-bop. It sounds gross and thick/nasty but atleast its fun to play. Perhapse the next slipknot....lol

"Metal" (quoted to imply all of it's sub-genres) is my favorite genre of music, but I don't usually like to listen to it whilst tripping. Once in a while though, I like to listen to Pink, and Rainbow by Boris, as well as Altar by Sunn O))) and Boris.

I like all kinds of music whilst tripping, it depends on the mood.
Jam bands like The Allman Brothers, Phish, Disco Biscuits, and STS 9
World Fusion like Dead Can Dance, Mickey Hart and The Shalabi Effect
Electronic Psychedelic Ambient like Solar Fields, Sundial, Carbon Based Lifeforms, and Asura
Trippy Hip-Hop like Madlib, Edan, and M.I.A.
But my favorite is HEAVY Metal like; ISIS, 5ive, Ufomammut, and Colour Haze
TOOL's - Aenima is the DEFINITION of Metal, anyone who thinks different is WRONG.

opeth works perfectly because of the radical changes from death metal to soft acoustic; it never fails to blow my mind. children of bodom for mindbending solos, and some good old amon amarth for some excellent sounds drums

I really get off on:
Nine Inch Nails- One of Time Leary's favorite tripy bands.
Marilyn manson
Static X
Pantera
Tool is ok, but I can't get into then when I booming....and I wouldn't consider them metal any more then i would consider Alice in Chains to be metal.
Old Black Sabbath is some spooky gothic shit!!! I have an old VH-1 tape of the Roots Of Metal with Sabbath, Cooper, MC5, Blue Cheer and Deep Purple. That's great stuff to trip to- but the Sabbath scares me. Seriously spooky shit. War pigs will practically have me hiding under the covers.
Classical music can also rock you when you have a god dose on.

Do me a favor and don't come into my thread about METAL, say you despise this general genre of music, post some of you're own opinions of bands then have the nerve to post some jazz movie or some shit. I listen to several of the bands you listed, but the rest of your post is obviously intented just to piss people off.

Don't make some asinine assumption that everybody that is a "metalhead" only listens to one type of music. I'm not close minded, and the only person here who seems to be is the one making stupid assumptions over a simple post about a type of music you don't understand.
You seem to try to say that you are the master of metal, yet you despise anything that is not you're own....I don't even really care just don't try to shit up my thread.

Old stuff like Sabbath, Iron Maidon, Judas Priest, and a few other ones I saw listed are what I would consider the trippiest metal bands when you look at their meanings and a lot of what the bands stood for.
I'd like to keep hearing everyone's favorite trippy metal bands...thanks Bof

oops- the tape is called VH1 Roots of metal and you can score it off Amazon
also check out; Movie Review Get Thrashed: The Story of Thrash Metal 2007 Director: Rick Ernst Cast: Tom Araya, Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth, Kirk Hammett
Aside from VH1, The New York Times, and school killings, the only media coverage on metal comes from metalheads. Rick Ernst is no exception. The former “Headbangers Ball” intern and current MTV producer is a diehard thrash metal fan. The goal of his documentary, Get Thrashed: The Story of Thrash Metal, is "to put a smile on the faces of as many thrash metal fans and bands as possible."
This hardly seems ambitious, until one considers that other forms of metal have gotten much more media attention. With its glitzy killings and church burnings, black metal has a book (Michael Moynihan's Lords of Chaos) and a documentary (by Peter Beste of Vice Films). Death metal and grindcore have a book, Albert Mudrian's Choosing Death. Even hair metal has Chuck Klosterman's Fargo Rock City. Sure, various metal histories have touched on thrash, but thrash fans haven't had their moment—until now.......cont on the website.

I like to check out Headbanger's Ball when ever I go to someone's house that has MTV2. I'd say some of the bands on there are kind of the "screamo" type that kind of get on my nerves...but lots of good stuff otherwise. I dunno if that's the correct term for what I'm thinkin of, but the bands that are just like punky and shreik about girlfriends dumping them and shit are the ones that I speak of.
On another note....anybody watch METALOCALYPSE? I like a lot of the Sunday night Adult Swim stuff but metalocalypse is one hell of a "cartoon" and Brandon whats-his-name from Dethklok definatly knows his way around some crazy guitar riffs.

Ahhh metal and shrooms... My personal favourite
There are a few bands I enjoy alot while tripping. Megadeth is the number one. Hangar 18 is pretty crazy tripping. Nile, as said earlier, is fun. Try to keep up with the drumming haha. Kamelot, that epic band. Very empowering, great for public tripping. Ive found that it can make you feel like a king. Dragonforce. I know this band is controversial in the metal scene, but I just dont care. Theyre awesome on shrooms! Theyre riffs are so fun and familiar and the drummer comes off as an octopus haha. OPETH, holy crap how could I forget! Probably the best choice. I dunno Just listen to what you like really. Arch enemy Finntroll Emporer In Flames Bodom Sonata Arctica yeah.

Haven't really had any time yet to check out some of the bands in this thread...but I did click on that link for Underoath....good shit! Love the guitar...great rythem throughout.
Theres nothing in the world like experiencing a great guitar riff/solo while tripping. Judas Preist has some of the most intense guitar and vocal whaling I've ever heard...it always blows my mind...tripping or not. To me their sound is like to oldschool "epic" sound.

On another note....anybody watch METALOCALYPSE? I like a lot of the Sunday night Adult Swim stuff but metalocalypse is one hell of a "cartoon" and Brandon whats-his-name from Dethklok definatly knows his way around some crazy guitar riffs.
I've heard about this show but never seen it (no cable) I might go pick up the DVD if its good.
