impulse seal pressure cooker question

If I have bulk bags with filter patches on them is it ok to impulse seal them before pressure cooking? I was thinking it might be since the filter patch would allow for gas escaping? Any input would be greatly appreciated. I was thinking I would sterilize some HP/castings and them inoculate with LC and then just case when it's all colonized. Any input on that?

I'm not well versed in the whole bulk bag thing, but from a general standpoint I see 2 flaws. First, I thought you pasteurize "MYCOBAGS". Putting them in a pressure cooker is more of the sterilizing approach. Second, The impulse sealer actually SEALS correct? If that is the case, the moisture from the bulk substrate would turn into steam and expand the sealed bag until it popped. Once again, I've never done the bag and filter patch thing, but I've read a lot and done bulk grows so I could be right and I could be wrong. Just my .02

I wouldn't do either. I wouldn't seal beforehand, even though the bags are supposedly able to do so. and I wouldn't sterilize hpoo/castings then directly inoculate them. many have tried, very few have ever succeeded.
for your situation, I would suggest inoculating spawn and then pasteurizing your hpoo/castings and spawning to it.
if you want to directly inoculate a sterilized manure based substrate, you'll need a much different recipe than just hpoo and castings.

oh i could have sworn i read a tek about that somewhere. I think in the tech the person sterilzed a poo mix in a bag and then innoculzted with LC and it worked perfectly every time for him.

So far everyone here has advised against it. Three different users! Monster Mitch has the most experience of the three. What more do you want? Do you need Roger Rabbit or Roadkill to chime in?

I got the basic idea (mostly concept) from Monster Mitch at http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/7507080 so he obviously doesn't think it's that bad of an idea. He said I need to tweak my formula, not don't do it.

Just a guess, but most likely that person also mixed in WBS or rye in the poo as well.
IMO you’re on the right track though, unless you want to grow massive amounts of musrooms, (> a few pounds) than why go through all of the BS to make spawn, and pasteurize poo?
Throw some grain & verm in with the poo, sterilize, and case. You can do it a gallon at a time which equates to 16 PF tek jars. If you have a large enough PC, you can load up to four bags at a time. That’s all the substrate anyone should need.
By cutting out a spawning stage, and inoculating with a large amount of LC, you can be ready to harvest in as little as three weeks from initial inoculation.
Well technically my mix has hpoo/castings/coir/and verm. Think that will do anything? I have a bunch of LC so I'm going to try it regardless, I am just looking for opinions on how I can increase my odds.

Mind sharing that recipe kind sir? I got the general idea from reading your journal thing on your signature bags and really liked the idea. I'd be more than willing to send a print your way from whatever I can get to grow.
