So i have my dissecent/silica gel packs, and my cracker dry shrooms. What should i store them in? Tubberware, ziplock, shoebox . . . any help would be greatly appreciated.
Oh, and how many gel packets will i need in with the shrooms?

I use a food saver. Works like a charm! They are a bit pricey, but when you take into consideration all the other things you do with it, it's sooooo worth every penny.

yeah, pricey is something that isn't to do-able for me at the moment. My dad has a vacuum pack ( same thing as food saver perhaps), but that would require a 8-10 hour round trip drive. Maybe just get a big zip lock bag, and suck the air out of it myself before i close it up?

Any ideas from your first post all work fine. You may want to use a tea-bag-sized portion of dissecent (2-3 of those little silica gel packets that come with beef jerky).

I heard you're supposed to use glass instead of plastic, like mason jars with the clamps.

what I've done is take thoroughly (cracker) dry fruits and vacuum seal them in little pouches with a oxygen absorber packet. The oxygen absorber will eat any left over O2 in the pouch as well as any remaining water vapor / moisture there might be...
--- I love those damn O2 gobblers, I throw one in every new loaf of bread and they'll keep for weeks without freezing.

Yeah, if you have to store them in a bag, make sure it's a paper one. Simply putting them in a shoebox with a few more holes poked in it should be fine, but dessicent is a definite plus.

those aren't silica gel packs in your beef jerky, they're oxygen absorbers. Otherwise your jerky would be nasty, chewy leather by the time you opened the pack.

yeah my two packs are the ones that came with a pair of my kicks. I just put them in ziplocks, sucked all the air out, and stored them in a tub. Jamaican - what is a rid?

ok some clarification, just place the shoe box style silica gel packs in a plastic bag with the air sucked out and the mushrooms inside? that equals cracker dry?

no. I use a combo air/fan dry, small heater dry, and oven dry (only 30 minutes on 100 degrees) to dry my shrooms to cracker dry. This is for preservation purposes.
Ha and yes, damp rid . . . i thought he ment i should put some rid, which was damp, in with my shrooms . . . which clearly makes no sense. Thanks for the help, shrooms are being preserved!
