Cake-In-A-Plastic-Bottle tek?

or however you call it. i'm doing a few single cakes and i threw out my old terrarium, which became obsolete and haven't gotten around to making a new one. so i saw this:

this is an in vitro grow but what i was planning is birthing the cake and putting it on a lid. perlite on the bottom saucer, FAE is no problem. what complications might i expect with this?

I suspect the perlite may not be enough for the humidity depending on the thickness of the layer. There aren't really any problems as it is just a scaled down FC. The fact that it can only hold one cake would be seen as a major complication by some.

Just an idea but for fae you could use a hot nail to poke lots of holes in the bottle and as for perlite depth you could use a deep bowl of some kind or just the bottom of the 2 liter bottle for that matter. Taking the cake out of the jar has one complication that I can see. Mushrooms will grow in all directions. So they might touch the sides of the container. That could smush the little mushy. Maybe it could push over the cake inside the bottle or push over the bottle itself. Maybe with a deep bowl you could push the bottle down into the bowl and it would be ok. Here is my artistic rendition of that idea. Yes I know I shouldn't quit my day job.

I just thought of the right kind of container that would be deep enough to hold several inches of perlite. A pot for planting like for indoor plants. It'll cost you 99 cents at Walmart.
Also another poor man's tech I saw once was a guy that used peanut butter tubs. Usually they sell the generic brand peanut butter in those size tubs. Anyhow the tub is deep enough for several inches of perlite and still have a cake with several inch tall mushrooms to grow on them.
Another thing I've actually done is used the giant pretzel tubs from walmart. They look sort of like a barrel only they are clear plastic and they are full of pretzels. The plastic labels suck. They don't come off easily and the glue is even worse. I made about 5 of those. If I ever make any more I'm not taking off the labels. I used a cordless drill to poke a zillion holes in each and filled the bottoms with perlite. Anyhow I gave them away to my fishing buddies since I was tired of growing extra mushrooms for them. They have reported great success with them.

i thought about that too: if the cake grows sideways or starts pushing the bottle it may become complicated. maybe i should put a small weight on the top to hold the bottle firmly in place.
idk about the holes though, i was planning to just lift the bottle off the cake once a day and wave it and put it back on.
about perlite depth i was thinking i can rehydrate it easily and often without lifting the bottle: just pour some water onto the tray.

Buy a plant pot. It even comes with holes at the bottom to let air circulate. And if you actually take the cut bottle to the gardening store you can probably find a size that allows your bottle to sit snugly inside that lip those things have. That way you can have loads of inches of humid perlite in there.

i put 6cm of perlite in the bottom of a 2l bottle, would this be enough for 95% humidity?

the humidity won't go above 62% i'm afraid. van anyone suggest any mini-terrariums for single cakes. i'd hate to pull out the old TiT for a few cakes.
