This is my first grow and I have some questions about my casings, the problem is that my mushrooms seem to be growing somewhat small and slowly, my 2 casings are circular six inches in diameter and only about two inches deep, theres only five inches of clearence between the casings and the top of the fc, humidified with perlite temp fluctuates between 72-77, I do fresh air exchange twice a day and was misting twice a day but stopped a few days ago when I read your not supposed to mist pins directly, anyway ive picked two so far they had a combined wet weight of 7g there are several more growing and they look healthy they are just very slim and only a few inches long and the caps dont seem to get very big at all, can anyone help me?

Do you know the humidity levels in your FC? Yeild will be higher if they get more fresh air exchange. You can mist if you think the humidities low, but mist above the FC so a fine mist falls in to it.

No I dont know the humidity levels, I add some more water to the perlite almost every other day, but what about the size of my casings could that alone be the reason my mushrooms are small?

Once you see pins, its fine to mist, when you see primordia, hyphol knots u dont want to mist, as this can hurt them, once they develop into pins with brown/red heads u can start misting then fan after the mist to dry any residue that has landed on the shrooms.
Small, slow growing fruits are an indication that your substrate is lacking moisture.
With cakes u can sit them in a saucer of water to help, im not sure what to do with casings though.
Also remember that shrooms wil absorb moisture through the air, so you need to make sure your humidity is in the right range.
Definatly want more fresh air exchange, way more than 2 a day, at least 6.
The 2 that weighed 7 grams is not too bad thats roughly what i get from pf cakes, with the odd 1 sometimes weighing around 7g.
does your casing layer look dry?

Thanks veda and no the casing layer doesnt look to dry, yesterday I injected about 5ml of rice water into each of them I guess I could do that every couple of days to keep them hydrated.

Def need more FAE in the FC, at least 6-8 times a day...especially if its pretty tight in there already (5" clearance?)...I had a similar problem, I had a 36" x 16" tray of cased rye spawn about 2.5"-3" deep. The FC was a modified coleman cooler only about 2" larger than the tray. I quickly figured out that it needed to be in a much larger FC for better FAE...switched to an under $100 martha setup and growth took off big time.
