what size impulse sealer?

The bags I have ordered have a stated width of 8.25". I am seeing 8" and 12" impulse sealers on ebay and amazon.com. I would prefer to buy the 8" version if it will work.
Will it, or will I have to break down and buy the 12" model?
Thx, M

Neither. My suggestion is to get some steel tie wire from your local hardware store and tie the ends shut like a loaf of bread. This allows you to easily open the bags later for FAE during fruiting, should you choose to go that route. I don't even own an impulse sealer. RR

You're the man as usual...
Someone should read back through your posts and compile a list of inexpensive, functional, and practical solutions you use/recommend for mycology's little necessities.

The 12 inch version is definitely recommended.

Thanks anno. You are probably right. If you are going to do it...do it right, right?
I will probably go with RRs advice for now, though. Why make things more difficult than they need be?

I use a 16 inch impulse sealer myself. when I do use one. for applications like cubes and spawn. for edibles and such, I use this:

Quote:
This bag clamp hermetically seals the opening of a bag and eliminates sealing machine and all its problems, reusable, no hassle simple design, allowing bags to be easily reusable, autoclavable, simple to use, allow easy spawning after autoclaving and cooling. Allows easy verification of internal CO2 content of bag without cutting and resealing, Allowing things you always wanted to do that you could not do when the bags are heat sealed.

If your going to use an impulse sealer, definately go with the larger one...you want to make sure its larger than the width of the spawn bag, that way the sides of the bag stay flat while sealing.

Hmmm, No excuse. I have a 55+ hour work week, I have 1 kid that I have to take to all kinds of extra curricular events. SEX is scheduled on my planner! LOL! that gives me at least 2hours of the shroomery a day depending on how long the sex is.

Hi Anno.
yes, and I suppose it depends on how many you order. I'd ballpark it at $1-2 each if bought one at a time. a discount surely applies for mass orders.

Steel Tie wire: is that like the plastic coated wire that bags of bread come with, but in steel? Would Zip ties work?
Tie like a loaf of bread? You mean twist the top of the bag a few times and then wrap the tie around the bag and then around itself. Is that water/airproof enough?
