i enjoyed that cd. His poetry is out there, but a lot of poetry is.
-------------------- Man is timid and apologetic; he is no longer upright; he dares not say "I think," "I am," but quotes some saint or sage. He is ashamed before the blade of grass or the blowing rose.Man postpones or remembers; he does not live in the present, but with reverted eye laments the past, or, heedless of the riches that surround him, stands on tiptoe to foresee the future. He cannot be happy and strong until he too lives with nature in the present, above time TRANSCEND

It's probably my favorite over-all doors/morrison album.

I think it's mainly because a lot of the best tracks have been played to death in movies, on the radio, etc. They inevitably destroy the flow of the album they're on. This is a common occurrence for a lot of bands. You'll be grooving on the album and then the big hit single will come up and it'll be jarring in it's over-saturated familiarity.
American Prayer doesn't really have this problem, unless you count Roadhouse Blues. Plus the album is such a fucking weird trip. It stands out for being consistent, unique and creative. That's just my opinion anyway.

I tried to listen to the whole thing through, each track back to back
No dice
Shitty free form, the monotone does not help at all, chock full of purple prose
It seems as if he just threw out the imagery in hopes it would make a coherent picture

a lot of his poems house his personal experiences. It's just like telling the story with extra words.
