ST. STEPHEN - Three students of St. Stephen High School, suspected of trafficking marijuana to other students, were arrested Tuesday.

And there may be more arrests to come.

Cpl. Jeffrey Cosgrove of the RCMP in St. Stephen said Wednesday officers are still investigating the drug trafficking activity at St. Stephen High and are looking into the possibility that more students may be involved.

Two of the students, a 17-year-old male and 15-year-old female, were released later Tuesday to their parents' custody and will appear in court at a later date to face charges. Their identities are being withheld under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, which protects the names of youths under 18.

An 18-year-old man was also arrested, released and will appear in court at a later date.

Cosgrove said the investigation followed several complaints of drug use and drug trafficking going on and near the school grounds.

He said a quantity of marijuana was seized. He said police are not aware at this time of the students trafficking any other drugs.

The officer said this is a problem that is not unique to the high school in St. Stephen and schools across Canada are struggling with drug trafficking.

"I think it's a typical school thing, in every school, and we just happened to get information about it going on over the recent period."

Cosgrove said police visit the school as often as they can, based on requests and demand, to deal with drug-related issues.

The investigation, and subsequent arrests, was a co-operative effort between members of St. Stephen detachment and the District 1 General Investigation Section, with the assistance of officers from St. George and St. Andrews.
