Found a crazy wood chip trail today when I got off work. Tons of these mushies. Not too sure what they are... Are honey mushrooms found on these sorts of trails?

Interesting. Probably a Psathyrella.

They look Psathyrella-ish, but he says it had a sturdy and strong stem. I wonder.

Psathyrella is very polyphyletic, the stalk is usually thin and white, but it can also be thick. They can have smooth or rough spores which can be black, purple, or red, a veil or no veil, ring or no ring, I think you get the idea.

If a bunch of hot chicks come up to you at a party and ask you to ID a mushroom with dark spores that isn't turning blue, and you really have no idea what the damn thing is you can pretty much always get away with calling it a psathyrella and no one in the immediate vicinity will be able to prove you wrong.

Always worked for me anyway.

Yeah, the last dozen or so times that's happened to me in the last couple of months, I've been all, "well, psathyrella, but thick stem, uh, mmm, ehhh i don't know," and they walk away all disgusted with me yelling out, "hey, I'll show you a thick stem!"

Now you've given me the proper line Alan. Thanks!
