Simple and delicious 'shroom recipes
    #7579881 - 10/31/07 09:05 AM (16 years, 3 months ago)

What are some mushroom recipes that are easy (im not much of a chef), healthy and taste good? I'm thinking maybe omellete type stuff for breakfast or something. What mushrooms can I grow that taste good in this way? I'd prefer to use the PFtek style as I already have a bunch of jars, incubator and fruiting chamber but if there's a better way to do it I'm open to spend a little.

Best and extremely easy way to cook mushrooms.

Get a saucepan that has a lid. Medium fire. Pour a drizzle of olive oil in and a knob of butter. Be generous, but you don't want to deep fry them.

Once melted, add your mushrooms. This dish works with all mushrooms but is at it's best with your standard button mushroom (agaricus bisporus)

Add a good pinch of salt and FRESHLY ground black pepper. I can't stress how important it is that the pepper is freshly ground. It is the little secret that makes this dish so great.

Cover the saucepan with the lid and let simmer at medium fire until done, stirring once in a while. The mushrooms will shrink and let out all this really tasty juice and become really flavourful.

Serve with toast or bread to suck up all the lovely juices.

EXTRA TASTY TIPS:

You can add a very small amount of lemon juice with the salt and pepper for that citrusy touch

You can add your favourite mixed herbs just at the end of cooking

You can add a small amount of chicken stock cube (say a quarter cube per pound, maybe less, depends on taste) for a bit of extra flavour.
