discuss this
-------------------- "If we could sniff or swallow something that would, for five or six hours each day, abolish our solitude as individuals, atone us with our fellows in a glowing exaltation of affection and make life in all its aspects seem not only worth living, but divinely beautiful and significant, and if this heavenly, world-transfiguring drug were of such a kind that we could wake up next morning with a clear head and an undamaged constitution - then, it seems to me, all our problems (and not merely the one small problem of discovering a novel pleasure) would be wholly solved and earth would become paradise." - Aldous Huxley GIVE ME OPIATES OR GIVE ME DEATH

Maybe when someone comes along with enough courage to admit how wrong everybody has been before him/her. It seems so many people don't want to tamper with something that has been in effect for so long

Ahhh, but I think that begs the question.... If the issue were raised fresh today would it be supported? I say no. The trends in other aspects of personal freedom are not going that way, and Im not even talking the patriot act. Gun rights, tobacco rights, private property rights... then trend on theses is you have less and less of them. Most states have or will make smoking illegal in privately owned business and public. Certainly they would never go for legalized marijuana. (at least not now) We are going to have to wait till the trend is more personal rights in all areas before pot is considered.
I voted for Yes, but not anytime soon.

I dont know if it will ever be legal, like truly legal. I think it will get to the point, though, where its just such a huge happening, even more than now, that the government just stops arresting people and getting people in trouble for it. But as far as legal and regulated marijuana...not in my life time. Im almost 21.

Unless they finally realize the money they are missing out on it will never be legalized. The government is not known to admit fault or correct errors in a timely manner.

Yes, there is money to be made and state and local referendums in that direction are getting closer and closer to passing. Sooner than later.

If what I've read is true, and some 65% of people in the pen are there for drug charges, and over half of those are weed charges (somebody on here must know these better than I) then we'd be letting a HUGE amount of people out of prison with a quickness if it were a national thing. WAY, WAY, WAY too much money being made there to see that happening.
On the other hand, if a state somehow pulled of legalization and the feds didn't shoot the place up like it seems they are in California, can you imagine how many people would move there?? The economy would boom I would imagine. But what are the chances the Feds will back off??

The feds aren't' shooting up the place in California. There are like 100 dispensaries within 10 miles of here. Feds can't do anything. The only people shooting them up are their neighbors.

i agree with xaeviax. I've heard that in Santa Cruz it's pretty much the lowest priority for cops already, and hopefully it will be like that in the rest of the Bay Area if not all of California soon. If anyone knows who jello biafra is he has a track on one of his spoken word albums called grow more pot and its all about how legalizing pot would make the world a better place. He suggests that people should become "Johnny Pot Seeds" and just plant so much weed in public places and all over the place in general that the cops wouldn't be able to keep up. That sounds like a good idea to me.

Alright. I am TIRED of getting bad info about Cali and what the TRUE situation is.
I must be hitting the wrong media outlets and talking to the wrong people. I wonder if it's possible that people come from these little nowheres like I'm from, go out to California, Vancouver, wherever, and because they're never been able to have such great green all the time before (basically that's 90% of us for most of our lives) just get taken to another level and don't see stuff for the way it really is because they are in another dimension (Paranoia maybe. And I can't blame them. In my state, if the cops are pissed, they'll give you 30 days for driving with residue in your ashtray)
I've had a few friends who were no real strangers to the Kind, and yet all 3 have said that what they had in California was just something different.
If we were to make a pilgrimage out there, where would you send us? Where can I find the rules for this stuff?
Thanks for setting the record straight.
