How do you find a job when you're moving to a new state?
    #7578044 - 10/30/07 07:02 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

I'm going to move I think. At first I was thinking New Hampshire, then I thought, what the hell, why not Vermont. I would need a job before I could get any type of living established up there. How do I get a job when I live three hours away at the moment? Should I try to make sure that the employer can wait to hire me until I am actually LIVING there? It's just kinda confusing. I'm not sure how to go about getting a job in a new state.

Well, you'd have to visit and have an interview/fill out an appilication first.

On applications, it always says "Date when available to work" or something like that. You'd just fill in when you'd be able to start working, in your case, after you moved.

Good luck in your endeavors!

Yeah you'd have to make a few trips to go job hunting and go to interviews.

Thanks...yeah, I guess when the time is ripe I'll just have to start making some weekend trips up to the area that I'm interested in.

Yeah, it all seems so simple when you guys put it that way. I guess I was overthinking it. I moved from Texas to Mass. a year ago and that was chaotic and crazy so I definitely want my next move to go smoothly.

Just have the job before you move (or be having a final in-person interview when u get there).

It's totally possible.

You'd get a job the exact same way you normally would:

1. Apply
2. Interview

get hired.

I think you need to just mull it over on a nice dose of 2ci haha. If I remember correctly taxes are quite a bit nicer in NH than vermont so you may want to look into that aspect (NH has high property taxes but everything else is pretty nice).

This is my post #666 so heed my satanic advice haha

I am planning on the same thing - not TX to VT but a similar state to state move. I plan on moving in late Feb. in December I will contact all the temp/placement companies in my field (legal, in my case) to test the waters. plan on sending them my resume, doinga phone interview, and actually seeing my chances for gettinga job. other than that, I am saving money like a fiend just in case I happen to run into any employment issues so that I can last a few months. rule of thumb, the more money you are looking for, the longer it mat take to find a job. If all else fails, i suppose I can take something way beneath my skill level justto stay a float... or, sell my motorcycle. but i sure as hell hopes it doesnt come to that!
