old growth logging in Oregon, HELP US!!!
    #7577925 - 10/30/07 06:28 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

All i wish is that some people send some emails, and maybe a phone call or two. this is a pure bullshit deal. yes i am fuckin outraged, if you love old growth trees, hate bush, or want to do something that is just for the better good then please help us.

The Bush Administration has announced shocking new plans to significantly increase logging on 2.6 million acres of public land in western Oregon by clearcutting old-growth forests and reducing protections for salmon-bearing creeks and streams. Rising out of an agreement between the timber industry and the Bush Administration, the Bureau of Land Management's 'Western Oregon Plan Revision' is the gravest threat to Oregon's ancient forests in years.

The draft Western Oregon Plan Revision (WOPR), a new plan for 2.6 million acres of public forests managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), will mean the loss of ancient forests from the northern Willamette Valley to southern Oregon's Siskiyou Mountains.

HELP US: TELL THEM NO FUCKIN WAY!!! http://www.oregonheritageforests.org/actionitem

Willamette valley? That's in the boundary of the Olympic national park. That's protected land for wildlife and recreation.

Honestly, I'd love to do whatever I can to help, but I just feel like it's hopeless. The only way anyone can stop bush is through political upheaval/revolution or through the barrel of a gun (necessarily along with alot of other people). Now that he's in office he'll do pretty much whatever he wants in my opinion.

That land is governed federally (at least a good portion of it I think), and there's little that can be done about it.

There are so few people out there that are really concerned, and they're not in office. The funding for national parks and conservation
has been cut alot by bush administration.

I'll send an email, but don't expect anything to happen, even if a lot of people help. The people behind this are obviously slimebags, and arn't ready to listen to reason.

If you really want to help, you've got to get this news out to A LOT of people, that's the only way.

you don't understand completely and that is ok. The BLM (bureau of Land Management) has three alternative actions. simple speaking one is cutting nothing. 2 is cutting everything. and 3 is cutting less of it. they are contemplating there decision PRIMARILY based on public opinion. all people have to do is get involved. with modern technology.....being the internet, that is nothing but a few clicks and an email. thanks for your
desire in helping brother. The bush administration started this proposal if enough people throw a shit it might not be as bad in the long run. its a ten year management plan.

Ah, I see. I don't think they have the best intentions or are truly concerned about the people's opinion as they should be, but perhaps if people raise enough noise they'll leave the forest alone.

It really just seems this isn't too far from what I expected, the more people mail in the less trees they'll cut down. I think they know it's not in the interests of the people.

If they weren't so interested in cutting down lots of trees they wouldn't be asking people's opinion on it. They're really going to tick a lot of people off with this one. They'll just push and push and push because they know except for a very small minority people are largely ignorant about these issues.

I sent them an email, hope it helps.

the blm is highly open to public opinion.
did you know that burning man is actually held on BLM land, not only that but the land they hold it on is actually, i believe, a national park or other designated area.

anyone with an opinion can go talk to the blm, theyre not half bad people, i spend a few weeks a year in their offices around nevada

"in times of widespread chaos and confusion, it has been the duty of more advanced human beings - artists, scientists, clowns, and philosophers - to create order. In such times as ours however, when there is too much order, too much m management, too much programming and control, it becomes the duty of superior men and women and women to fling their favorite monkey wrenches into the machinery. To relieve the repression of the human spirit, they must sow doubt and disruption"

I think the national forest service is corrupt and very likely the blm too. If the blm were not corrupt they wouldn't be pulling things like this. The national forest service I know for a fact is sold out to industry and private interests.

American government is just one big criminal organization. And everyone who works for it is a criminal member.
