I have been reading about LSD on wikipedia. It said that there was a brandname for LSD. So i looked up Delysid on google and found this website http://www.psymon.com/psychedelia/images/delysid.html . So what is that stuff exactly? Was it being openly sold before it was illegalized?

Delysid was a prescribed drug. I do not believe it was ever sold on the shelves. They used it a lot in the 50's at certain psychiatric wards and mental asylums. Theres good information in one video called "LSD: The Beyond Within" on my myspace profile. U should watch it. www.myspace.com/ellezdey

Delysid is the name Albert Hoffman gave to it after its synthesis. That is also the name given to it for international distribution to mental hospitals. LSD is actually an acronym for its chemical name; Lysergic acid Diethylamide.

Yes, Delysid was the commercial name given to LSD back when it was thought it might have potential as a powerful tool in the field of psychology. Like it's been said, Delysid was distributed to mental institutions and hospitals in its prototype-phase. It was never openly sold or released to the public, only to some health institutions and government-funded projects(testing).
One of these health institutions was Menlo Park hospital in California, where the CIA was paying students money per day who were subjected to tests with LSD. This was how Ken Kesey came across LSD, eventually was hired at the hospital as a janitor I believe(correct me If I am mistaken), and made off with loads of Delysid stolen from the doctor's office (eventually distributing it).
