too many sunflowers? (pics)
    #7577104 - 10/30/07 02:56 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

Is this sunflower ratio too high or what? This is the third time I haven't extracted the sunflowers and I've had zero colonization or contamination. The only thing I've changed in my technique is now I use 60 cc syringes but with plenty of visible spores so I don't see how that matters. Your input is greatly needed and appreciated.

Of course... and I've had full colonization plenty of times with birdseed but I always removed the sunflowers and I only used 10cc syringes. I'd hate to have to go back to the old method these 60cc syringes are convenient for bulk.

You dont need to remove sunflower seeds as they add lignin which in turn is a good thing i never remove em.

Some bird seed is treated with fungicides. Generally the cheaper brands don't as it adds to the manufacturing costs. BUT....you never know.

But isn't too much lignin a bad thing?

I just don't understand it... this really should have worked.
