Actually, you can make an MP3 bitrate as high as you want — probably even as high as the lossless bitrate (so, it defeats the purpose). 320 is just an established standard, or something.

A lot of people claim that on a good sound system, you can tell the difference between 320 and lossless.

A lot of people also claim they can taste the difference between Smirnov and Absolut.

Limewire has always treated me right... although it can be awfully fucking slow and songs are often mislabeled. After using it for 3 years I really know my way around the program, so these flaws aren't that bad anymore.
Never used any torrents... don't really know a damn thing about them. I tried one once and found absolutely nothing I was looking for... maybe the shit I listen to is too "underground"? Or do I just not know how to use them? Please explain...

Soulseek.
If you're looking for any sort of electronica (and a lot of modern indie/rock), there's your solution. I've been using it for years. Plus, there's a dead-as-fuck shroomery chatroom (I assume)!

when you download music using torrent sites, you usually have to get a whole album, not just the song you like. Frostwire is pretty good for single songs if thats what youre interested in.
Torrents are easy to use. Download utorrent and run it. http://www.utorrent.com/download.php
then go to http://torrentscan.com/ type whatever your searching for in the box to the left, and click a torrent site to search, btjunkie usually has everything. find the file you want and download it.
i dont remember the defaults for everything, incase it dont auto start....
the file you will have downloaded from torrentscan/btjunkie is just a .torrent. (it tells utorrent where to download whatever it is your looking for ) find whereever you downloaded it to and double click it, if you already have utorrent running it should just pop up and start downloading. If windows dont know what to do with it, go to open with and select utorrent.

waffles.fm and what.cd are two new private sites that are trying to fill the void left by oink.
I have two invites to what.cd if anyone wants them. People that can show a decent ratio on another site will get dibs. Someone that can give me a waffles.fm invite will get an e-handjob AND an invite to what.cd
