let nature take care of them, if they are fruiting there already they are probably just fine how they are.

but if u decide to harvest and care about them coming back, snip them with scissors and dont pull them out of the ground. disturbing the mycelial structure could cause them to either stop fruiting or put out much less than before.

Add substrate annually. Mushrooms do a very good job at decomposing their designated substrates. Adding a decent amount of wood chips to the area each year ensures that the mushrooms have a never ending job to do. They will keep decomposing wood as long as it is provided.

If you have get ahold of some smaller adler chips, that would be ideal, but almost anything will work. I'm sure cedar/hemlock are not good substrates, but I can't really think of anything else which absolutely won't do the trick.

yeah cedar and hemlock are anti-rot/anti-fungal

like 90% of fungus wont/cant eat cedar

add chips after the seasons over, during late-winter early-spring

there are lots of alder trees around here. i could probably just chop that up hey? also, because of the placement of the mycelial network, does this mean that they will fruit in the same polace every year?

they will pop up in the same place so long as they have wood to feed on, keep adding wood like the others said and they should keep coming back... chipping one of your alder trees would be fine :yesnod:
