pmp suggestion

so im making my 2nd pmp (poop mans pod) and had an idea for keeping the cakes up off the geolite. (the cakes are sitting on lids on top of the geolite in my 1st one)
my idea is drill four 7/16" holes on each side (length wise) approx 1/2- 1" above where my tubes come in from my air pump. then run 4 wooden dowels through those holes and silocone then around the outside and lay a piece of rabbit fence on top of the dowels and set my cakes on them.
now my question is- is it safe to use wooden dowels being as that they will be exposed to high humidity? will it cause them to mold and rot and contam my work? if so could i water treat the dowels and not have to worry about anything. i just dont want to spend the money on metal rods...
thanks for the help guys

Why do you need them off of the geolite if they are on lids or tinfoil?I have a pmp with hydroton which from what Ive read is the same as geolite almost and haven't had a problem with my pmp.

i was just worried about them maybe getting too wet from the water bubbling up around them. sometimes it gets on the lids...
nw_shroomy- do you have holes drilled in the top of your pmp? or do u just leave the lid loose? if you have holes what size and how many?
im just leaving my lid loose but im not sure if its getting enough fae or not.

use pvc tubes instead of wood dowel rods. My tub wasn't square..so i was able to wedge my screen down in there snugly.
and if you use any kind of metal fence or screen material, make sure you apply a coat of special paint to keep it from rusting.
and i've got two larger holes in the lid of mine..but you need to fan it still, it will help a TON. Those holes will just help in between fannings, but don't just not fan it at all

I have 4 1/4" holes in the 4 corners of the lid but I'm going to do casings in it so I'm going to do what is suggested here and make 2 of those holes 1" and screw a piece of plastic over them so I can adjust the humidity. I had a permanent marker cracking the lid open and those 4 holes and still have a hard time keeping the humidity less than 99%.

I drilled some 3" holes in the lid and put some polyfill in there..if you keep up on your fanning you're humidity will drop so you can do a casing. I did casings as well as cakes in mine, no problem
Looks like you need some holes in the side of it, might help

How do you control the humidity with 3" holes stuffed with polyfill? If you have something over the holes that can easily be opened and closed wouldn't it be easier to control the humidity this way? Also your tub looks more like a monotub. Is it set up with hydroton or geolite and a air pump? One of the purposes of a PmP is so you dont have to fan.

The fence gets really annoying if you put your cakes directly on it. Pins grow through the fence and get your cake all caught up.

yea i figured that out with my shotgun fc. so i still put the cakes on lids and on the fence, problem solved...
nw_shroomy- good point i was wondering that to. why would you want to restrict the air flow going through the pmp with polyfill. contams wont fall in if there is constant air movement.

polyfill doesn't restrict the airflow, since it's very loose. I've got lava rocks and two bubblers in mine. It's not a monotub.
and fanning still needs to always be done. You need that forceful air movement to stir up the air inside. The bubblers will provide some fresh air to the container...but there is no comparison to manually fanning it out a few times daily. I noticed a huge difference when i started to do that with my pmp's.
Yes, you can get results without fanning..but you'll get better results with it.
