alright so today while shopping for connecters and tubing for my coolmist i noticed that the vent for the coolmist is at least 8in in diameter. can i fill it in with caulk, or would that fuck the coolmist up? would duck tape work?? or whats the best way to cover the vent??

I try-ed sealing it with silicone once, it ended up dripping onto the fan and messing up the cool mist but then again I'm abit accident prone. thank god for exchanges
Now I just use duct tape to cover multiple openings at once just like so...

Work's better this way rather then permanently sealing it I can always remove the duct tape if I ever decide to use the humidifier in my greenhouse

For those, I just invert a funnel and duct tape it to the top. Runs beautifully and unobstructed to PVC/other piping.

Impeller type coolmists have a small opening. If it's a large opening, it's the wicking type, which won't work. RR

Duct tape works wonders. I second that approach. Silicones and caulks aren't as good for this job. As Pr0_X notes, non-permanent modifications allow you to retain versatility with your equipment.

ya the vent had a pretty large opening... i popped off the vent and broke all the plastic things making it a ring that fit snug back ontop of the fan. i put a couple layers front and back of tape and tryed to seal it off the best i could. then i cut a hole for the fittings, and tape it well also. drilled a hole for the fitting that i attached to the fc and connected the hose. even though the diameter of the vent was rather large, it seems to be pushing a decent amount of airflow for the tub,,,probaly not enought to supply my greenhouse here in the next couple weeks. could someone please give me the exact name and brand of a cool-mist i should get. i shopped at depot, lowes, walmart.eckard, walren, and i got the one that looked the best,...it was like $50 or so..thanks

i think the 1.5gal vicks will be ok. so would i just cover the vents and drill a hole somewhere in the back? the one i have now, there isnt even that much room between the fan and the cover, the other half below it is a huge filter. so would i put the hole somewhere above the fan in the back of the vicks?

Wait, you guys just completely ignored that? I had a point; RR had a better one. By just duct taping to fuck except for a small opening you're placing huge backpressure on that fan; it'll hardly have any output. To boot as RR mentioned, evaporative humidifiers are adequate, but not great, as is. That thing will at best reach 75% RH; hardly ideal, especially if you back it up like that.
