Brugmansia blossoms.

My brugmansia's flowers are finally starting to open fully tonight, and I'm truly astonished by how strong a scent it's emitting.
It's next to the back door which is open tonight, and the entire house reeks of brugmansia, it's shocking to me... we don't normally have such fragrant plants in this climate.
I wish I had the proper equipment to make an essential oil extract of it.

they are easy to propogate with cuttings in the later spring/summer, beautiful plant (sphinx moths love them) but not a very fun one to ingest.

Sure I want an extract! I've handled more toxic things before. Seal it up in the bottom of something that breathes but doesn't leak and you've got a very nice fragrance without an overdose of atropine dripping all over the place.
I don't have two to pollinate together, no. Well, I do have 4 actually (3 in pots) but they're all cutting clones from the same tree so there's little point in inbreeding them when I could just self-pollinate the single tree were I to desire seeds.

are any Brugmansia self fertile? i always thought they all needed another plant (not a clone)...??
oh gotcha, i thought you were wanting an extract for consumption....but the smell would indeed be nice.

Oh hell no, anyone crazy enough to try consuming a brugmansia extract is insane.
One should not go into an intense 48-hour trip with the knowledge that they might die.

I dunno, I like the way the light plays in the background of the macro shot I took.
You should see the image at 1024x768, it's awesome... but photobucket caps size at 800x600.
Thank you kindly for the brugmansia, by the way. It's kind of funny that a single one of the plants I haven't even had for a full year yet is so fragrant that it can douse my home in a scent so strong it's actually a bit overwhelming.

If you seriously want to try to make an essence there are a few different methods.
Easiest- Attar method, pound flowers, let the flowers soak in water, oil rises to the top. Very inneficient.
Pretty good- crush them, let them soak in barely enough oil, set in sun for a month (I only know for sure this works with roses)
Best- Enfleurage method, In a clean enamel pan lay a layer of clean, olive oil soaked cotton wool (to every 2 cups olive oil add 1 t. tincture of benzoin) then a layer of fresh picked flowers, then another layer of oil soaked cotton woolover it all lay a clean piece of glass. Put it in a sunny window every 24-36 hours change the flowers until the olive oil has taken on all the scent of the flowers and has reached the strength you desire. squeeze the oil out into a lightproof container.
Any chance you might have some viable seeds?
