poor timing for initial dunk....question about how long...

I placed a few cakes in a pot about 3 this afternoon.. I didn't think about it, but I will be at work when 24 hours is up. So, I can either take then out before work, 15 hours, or take them out after work, 27-28 hours soak time. I know they will be fine either way, but is one better than the other?
Thanks, M

I've left em for a few days and they were fine
Notice they are floating in the jars

don't know if this is the place to post what may be a crazy thought but... if you took an air-tight container, put a hole in the lid and threaded a bicycle innertube valve through (rubber washers on both sides)and pumped it up.would the increased pressure speed up the re-hydration of the cake/s. where's that beard stroking gremlin at

This would probably more than likely damage the mycelium, you notice how easy myc can bruise even from just lightly touching, so its likely that pressure is going to do the same thing.
Just let them hydrate on there own time.

sounds like a fun experiment. It is worth one cake just to see. If you destroy it who cares?
It would be easy to go too far. What if you put the innertube valve in the lid of a pressure cooker and then pressurized that? That would give you 15psi and no heat. I would be scared to go higher than that.

Hooking up a vacuum pump works better. It fully hydrates a cake in an hour or two. The vacuum sucks the air out of the cake, which is then replaced by moisture. Don't overdo it though, the mycelium will drown. Remove at one to two hours max. RR
