DO NOT USE REYNOLDS OVEN BAGS TO PASTEURIZE

well i usually use the filter bags from one of our sponsors to pasteurize my bulk...
well i ran out and instead of ordering more i went to the local walmart and got some reynolds oven bags.. good for up to 400*.... MY ASSS!
the way i pasteurize...?
fill field capacity bulk into oven bag, and put in pot of hot water (165*) cover lid and forget about it for 3 hours...
well.. it works beautifully with the filter bags since they are nice and heavy duty...
so its all done pasteurizing.. i pick up the bag out of the water.. dry it off and cross the kitchen with bag in my hand... then.. PLOP!!! bag fuck'n rips open from the bottom! COIR + WORM CASTINGS + VERMICULITE + COFFEE GROUNDS ALL OVER MY KITCHEN FLOOR! its like a steaming hot pile of shit i swear.. i wish i took pictures but i had to work fast before roommates got home. heh
i had to take off work today cause now i had to clean this god damn mess up. wow. this sucks.. full brick of coir too..
next time.. i'll be getting a 5 gallon paint bucket.. with a 100 micron paint strainer lid.. then pour boiling water in bucket, let sit.. and use the strainer lid to strain my bulk OUTSIDE!....
please.. learn from my mistakes!

i use reynolds oven bags, but i pasturize in the OVEN, not in a pot of water, and it always works like a champ. try doing an oven tek instead if you've got those bags.

I was gonna say, I hope fkn noobs read the thread and not just the Subject! Dude change that subject for real! (B/C as a noob I did that) and am still prone to do that! Don't talk shit about the bags in a subject line, when really its just a post of you Whining about how YOU fuct up. NOT THE BAGS! you cut the corners off, and make a bunch of little ones. MORE BASKETS More better EGGS. remember that. its okay. TRY AGAIN! thats the important thing. DONT GIVE UP!

Was your bag sitting on the bottom of the pot? it may have just got far too hot y touching the metal bottom of the pot. This can melt oven bags as the temperature on the surface pot bottom is very high.
Use something on the bottom, like a cloath to stop bags from touching the bottom,
Just a thought. I have some of those bags, and they are well a little thin and flimsy feeling. Have yet to try them.

Wrapping in foil worked for the gradient. Not trying to gain posts just in case any noobs (like me!) search the right words and click on this post...here's a thread illustrating that it is possible. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=Forum2&Number=2647751&Searchpage=1&Main=2647751&Words=%2Boven+%2Bbag+%2Btek&topic=&Search=true#Post2647751

Don't use cheap oven bags. Learnt this the hard way a few times. They always tend to burst at some point. Really annoying watching all those colonised grains pouring across the carpet

The problem wasn't the bag, you should have let it cool over night and the moved it. those bags aren't meant to be boiled under pressure either.
