casing woes - experienced grower needed

media cased before full colonization. No growth. Decided that the casing mix was too dry. Pulled it off and brought to field capacity. PH tested at 7. 3 days at 75F brought growth to the top. Keeping misted but growth seems to have halted? I have a brand new grow tent with 20 gallon humidifier I am dying to try out. I need to figure out what I am doing wrong

bump. I did not spend a huge amount of time breaking the peat up. It seems like it is gathering in balls. The sprayer I was using was fairly large in particle size. I dont know if I should scratch it to see if that is the problem or if it is just taking a week already to colonize a 1/2 casing layer with now optimal temps.

it seems to be improving but the casing seems to dry out extremely fast. I continue to keep it covered with saran wrap. It looks like that mix might be a tad thick on the vermiculite side and there are gnats. They generally dont cause any problems though.

other than you constantly screwing with it - no harsh feelings intended - it really doesn't sound like you've done anything wrong.
scratch the saran-wrap idea though, if anything use wax-paper that has been crumpled and uncrumpled several times just over the surface of the casing mixture.
monitor the humidity levels, mist (then fan) as needed if you're doing this manually...otherwise tweak the automated system's FAE and humidifiers until you can stay steady in the 85-95% RH percentiles...
but most importantly, the mycelium does not instantly switch to fruiting mode the moment the casing layer is colonized and it can take several days up to a week of "inducing pinning" to make it happen. patience.
--- lastly, if you're going to dunk between flushes, remember to allow the colony 2-5 days of rest after harvest before dunking. You'll get more solid flushes and a lower contaminate rate - in my humble opinion..

Don't mistake my tone for a "matter-of-fact" attitude. I checked on it today. It looks like the gnats kicked into over drive. I may switch to misting with something with bt. I have never tried it before but I dont know why it would not work. This grow is definetly not text book. I will update but I am going to induce fruiting very shortly. Any casing that has not colonized I will peel 90% uncolonized off and induce fruiting. lots of fae, full auto baby,

Leave a half full bottle of beer or wine in the chamber/tent. Gnats will crawl in and drown. Change at least every couple of days. Works great for me.
