* Habitat - In the forest on a dead tree stump in western washington * Characteristics of the gills - Very crowded attached, yellowish * Characteristics of the stem -length 2.5 - 3in, diameter about an inch, color very dark brown kinda shinny in areas, texture smooth, hollow, thick * Characteristics of the cap (diameter 4 in,color brown tan, darker in the middle, and at the edges, texture feels almost like velvet?, its very wavy* * Scent of the mushroom is kinda sweet There were quite a bit in this area on the stump and on the ground near by, didnt see anymore the entire time looking through the forest.

I agree with cactu on the genus, but not the species. cactu, there is a bit of a ring on the stem where his thumb and finger are holding it.
codycrue, those are commonly known as Honey Mushrooms. They are edible, but if you want to eat them be sure to *thoroughly* cook them first. They are poisonous if raw or undercooked. If you have any doubt at all if you've cooked them thoroughly, then you haven't yet.
Finally, if you want to eat them, you should also be aware that Honey Mushrooms cause more poisonings than any other edible mushrooms. It's not clear if the poisonings are due to allergic (or similar) reactions or just people who didn't cook them enough. If you want to eat them, thoroughly cook a small amount (the size of a fingernail) and eat it. If you don't get sick overnight then you're OK for eating these.

yes , i was in the same discussion with myself , but i decide for the latter ..;) but you are probably more right that iam , it just that sometimes i see like a pseudoring in tabescens and the greenish of the base more that with mellea is not to evident in the picture anyways, but is ok
